THE TARGET

CHAPTER 11 The boutique had begun to heal. The shattered window was replaced, the red dress repaired, and whispers of resilience spread among loyal customers who dared to return. For a moment, she believed they could withstand his storm. But storms don’t fade — they gather strength. Daniel arrived late one evening, his face pale, his hands trembling. “They came for me,” he whispered. “Two men followed me after work. They didn’t touch me, but they made it clear — if I keep writing, I’ll regret it.” Her heart clenched. “He’s escalating.” Daniel nodded, his jaw tight. “He’s not just after your boutique anymore. He wants me gone.” The weight of his words pressed against her chest. She had dragged Daniel into her war, and now he was paying the price. Guilt gnawed at her, but pride refused to let her break. “We’ll protect you,” she said firmly. “We’ll fight back harder.” That night, the CEO appeared again, his presence colder than ever. His eyes gleamed with satisfaction, as if he had already won. “You thought you could rebuild?” he sneered. “You thought your journalist friend could save you? He’s nothing. And soon, he’ll be gone.” She stepped forward, fury burning through her veins. “You can threaten me. You can threaten him. But you’ll never break us.” The CEO’s smirk deepened. “Sweetheart, you don’t understand. This isn’t about breaking you. It’s about teaching you. Every thread you weave, I’ll unravel. Every ally you find, I’ll destroy. Until you realize — resistance is futile.” Daniel rose, defiant despite the fear in his eyes. “You can’t silence me. I’ll write, I’ll publish, even if I have to do it underground. People will know who you are.” The CEO’s jaw tightened. His voice dropped to a whisper, sharp as a blade. “Then you’ve chosen destruction. And destruction is what I do best.” Silence filled the boutique, heavy and suffocating. The red dress shimmered faintly in the corner, scarred but unbroken — just like her. She realized then that the war had reached its most dangerous stage. It was no longer about contracts or debts. It was about survival, freedom, and the courage to stand against a man who thrived on control. The threads of revenge were tightening, pulling them all into a war that would leave none untouched.
