CHAPTER THREE

4994 Words
Lydia P.O.V “Adelaide are you all right? You know you cannot hide anything from me. I can see you are in a lot of pain.” I look at my friend with sympathy in my eyes and decide to give her a tight hug. I pull away from the hug and can see tears well up in her eyes.  “Oh Addie. Is there anything I can do for you right now? I wish I could make your pain go away.” I give her another hug, but this time I hold on to her for a while longer. I can feel her tears falling on my shirt. I know she does not like showing any emotion. I feel so sorry for her, especially since her parents did not even come to the show. And then there was the fight with Daemon, and now this. She is such a good person. She does not deserve to go through all this crap. She pulls away from me, and as she does I can see three men walking up to us. I know the one is Benji, but who are the other two? Adelaide starts speaking just as they stop in front of us. She already dried of her tears. “Lydia, meet my new guards. The blonde one there on the left of Benji is James, and the tall one, with brown hair on the right is Carl.” I stare at them probably a bit longer than I should. Damn… They are hot! Especially James with that beautiful blonde, shoulder length hair, dark blue eyes and broad shoulders. I’m brought out of my gawking for too long, by Adelaide’s fingers snapping in front of my face.  “Lydia, did you hear anything Benji just said?” I just stare at her confused and notice James had a huge smirk on his face. @sshole, I thought to myself. I bow my head in shame, but not before noticing that the Principal and Miss Spencer are also back. I look up again facing Benji, and avoiding James’ eyes. “I’m sorry Benji, what was it that you said?” Benji replies with a smirk on his face. “I said the ambulance is here, ready to take Adelaide to the hospital.” Well, it’s about time. I thought to myself. Adelaide’s P.O.V I can’t believe Lydia is shamelessly checking out my bodyguards like that. I chuckle to myself. She will never change. She never could stick with one guy for more than a month, actually that is her record, a month. She gets bored way too easily. I’m glad the ambulance finally arrived. My bum already feels numb from sitting on this hard floor for too long.  “Adelaide do you want me to carry you to the ambulance? I don’t think it would be a good idea to walk on that foot with the injured ankle, it’s already swollen.” Benji asks me. I look at him with a face that reads are you serious? But I reply instead. “Are you serious Benji? I’m sure I can manage to walk from here to the ambulance.” I say this in a serious tone.  Principal Evans speaks up. “At least it’s not that far, they parked at the back stage’s entrance. Miss Saunders will you be alright if Miss Spencer accompanies you to the hospital? I’m afraid something came up and I need to go home immediately.” I can see he is serious, with the concerned look on his face. “Off course it’s fine Principal Evans. Thank you for staying so long anyway.” I give him a small smile. “Thank you Miss Saunders and Miss Spencer, please take care of her and keep me updated.” With that said he turns around and walks out to the front of the Auditorium. “I guess it’s time to get up and go to the hospital.” I try to stand up, but just as I was about to step on my left leg, I stumble forward and luckily Benji is there to catch me. “See I told you I should rather carry you to the ambulance.” He says this with a chuckle and smirk on his face. He is so full of himself sometimes. I just give him an angry glare. The rest also starts laughing.  “Geez guys, this is not a comedy show so stop laughing. Benji just pick me up and get it over with.” Suddenly everyone is silent. Benji picks me up bridal style with his one arm under my thighs and the other one around my shoulders. At least I have never gotten any weird vibes from him, he is like an older brother to me. I trust him. If it was anyone else I would probably freak out.  Suddenly Lydia speaks. “Adelaide I will be catching a lift with Miss Spencer, we will be driving behind the ambulance. I already told my parents they can leave. They said I must tell you good luck and get better soon and they also said I must keep them updated, which I obviously will do. They will come and visit you tomorrow.” She says this as she walks beside Benji, while he carries me to the ambulance. “Thanks Lydia. I appreciate you being here with me. And thank you Miss Spencer for giving her a lift.” I say it with sincerity in my voice and a smile on my face, even if my ankle is throbbing from pain.  “No problem Adelaide, you know I care about you too. I phoned your parents, but they are not picking up. I will try again, once we reach the hospital.” I can see the sympathy in her eyes again.  At last we reach the ambulance and Benji helps me in, making sure I don’t hurt my ankle. Once I’m settled he turns to the other two guards. “You guys take the SUV and drive behind us, I will be riding with Adelaide in the ambulance.” They nod their heads at him and walk away. He turns to me again and gives me a small smile. “Thank you Benji, for driving with me.” After about a 20 minutes’ drive we eventually arrive at Cape Town Memorial Private Hospital. Benji uses a wheel chair to get me inside. We came in at the Emergency unit’s side. While we wait for Benji to complete the paper work, one of the nurse’s wheels me into one of the waiting rooms, telling me that the Doctor will be with me as soon as he can.  Carl and James stands outside the waiting room while Miss Spencer, Lydia and I wait in the waiting room. They helped me to sit on the bed. I look around and notice that the room is actually quite small. When you walk in through the door, which is on the left side, the first thing you see is a small oak desk against the wall with a chair. The bed is next to it, with the foot end facing the desk, the top side of the bed is in the other corner of the room, so like I said, it’s small. Next to the bed is a white, metal cabinet, the same height as the bed. And then there is two metal chairs like about 3 meters away from the bed, at the opposite wall, where Lydia and Miss Spencer are currently sitting on. We are all patiently waiting for the Doctor. Suddenly Miss Spencer stands up and speaks, bringing me back to reality. “Adelaide, if you do not mind I want to step out for a while and try to contact your parents again.” She says with a serious tone. “No problem at all Miss Spencer. And if you don’t mind would you please get us all something to eat at the Hospital’s cafeteria? I’m kind of hungry.” I take out my credit card and hand it over to her. I give her a warm smile.  “Sure my dear. I did not even think of that. And no Adelaide, I can’t possibly use your card. I will pay for it.” She attempts to give me my card back but I hold my hand in front of me, showing her to stop. “Please Miss Spencer I insist. Use my card. You have done so much for me and this is my way of saying thank you.” She just shakes her head and chuckles at me. “Sure Adelaide, if you insist. I will be going now.” She turns around and walks out the door. Lydia picks up her chair and brings it closer to the bed to sit next to me. “So Bestie, since we are alone now. Please tell me what is going on.” I just start laughing at her. She knows me too well. So I start telling her everything that happened at the house and also that I have not been talking to Daemon for two days. Even at school he avoided me. Telling her this, tears start welling up in my eyes again. I quickly wipe them off with the back of my hands. Lydia stands up and gives me a tight hug. She sits back down again and also has tears in her eyes.  “Girl you’ve been going through all that, but you still decided to come to the show. Why?” I just give her a small smile. “Well, I did not want to miss it. It’s like an escape for me. Besides you know how I feel about singing, dancing and acting.” I move a little and a pain shoots through my ankle again. “Ouch!!!” I didn’t mean to yell so loud. But Sh!t that really hurt! Lydia is instantly next to me.  “Addie are you okay? Can I do anything for you? What’s wrong? What happened? Where the hell is that damn Doctor? Why is he taking so long?!” Just as she said that a guy came walking in with a white coat and stethoscope around his neck. He starts speaking. “That damn Doctor had to take care of another patient before I could come to this patient.” He chuckles. I can see the blood drain from Lydia’s face and her eyes go wide in shock. I struggle to contain my laughter but I manage to get it right. Lydia turns around slowly… Lydia’s P.O.V Oh my goodness! I just embarrassed myself in front of a professional Doctor. I decide to turn around. Holy Moly!!! This guy must be a Greek God. He has perfectly tanned skin, black hair, which frames his face perfectly. His fringe is halfway over his forehead. And those eyes, oh my goodness I can’t even describe the color. It’s like a golden- light brownish color. He has a perfectly sculpted jawline and a nose that fits his beautiful face perfectly. He has a coat on but I can see through his light blue shirt that he has perfectly sculpted muscles underneath, which I would love to touch…  “Are you done staring Miss, so I can check on my patient, we don’t want her waiting, now do we?” He says this with a sexy smirk on his face. Damn him! I’m probably as red as a tomato right now. “Uhhh… yeah… sure… I will just be waiting outside then. And sorry about the comments earlier Doctor.” I hear him laughing while I walk out of there as fast as I can to the nearest Ladies room so I can freshen up. I really need to get a grip.  I walk straight to the Ladies room and once inside I walk to the basin so that I can splash some water on my face, to try and get myself together. “What the hell just happened? Is this what they call love at first sight. Oh come on Lydia! Don’t be ridiculous. You never fall for a guy that fast. And you don’t even believe in love at first sight.” Yeah I’m crazy. I’m talking to myself in the mirror, with my hands leaning on the sink and staring at my dark brown eyes in the mirror.  Just then a lady comes out of one of the toilet stalls. My eyes go wide… She obviously heard my rambling. Great! Now I’m red as a tomato again! She stares at me awkwardly. I just give her a small smile. She has a white coat on, so she must be a Doctor as well. She is quite beautiful, with dark blonde hair, hanging just below her shoulders. She has a fair skin and brown eyes, a lighter shade than mine. She’s also not as tall as I am, but has a good figure. She’s actually the opposite of me. I have long, dark brown hair, with bangs almost hanging in my eyes. I think it’s time for a haircut. I’m about 10 cm taller than her and I have a tanned skin. I also have a good figure. That’s probably the only thing we have in common. I try to keep myself in shape by going to the gym.  “Excuse me.” Well, she’s rude. I only realize now that I’m standing in front of the sink and she probably wants to wash her hands. “Oh, I’m terribly sorry, and sorry if you heard my rambling earlier.” I give her an embarrassed look. She just looks at me with a blank face and gives me a snarky reply. “I really don’t care.” And with that said she dries her hands and walk out of the Ladies room.  I’m standing there shocked. What the hell crawled up her @ss. I also walk out of the Ladies room, wanting to go check up on Adelaide again, or at least to see if the examination is complete. I walk into Benji in the hallway.  “Hi Benji, what’s up?” I can see he looks quite stressed. “I’m so stressed right now Lydia, but it’s fine. I will deal with it.” He has a stern expression on his face. “Since you clearly don’t want to talk about it… Is all Adelaide’s paper work sorted out?” I ask in a caring tone.  We are walking together to Adelaide’s room. “Yeah, at least that is sorted out. Sorry Lydia I didn’t mean to snap at you. There is just so much going on right now.” Once again he has that serious expression on his face. “Don’t worry about it Benji. I know you are under a lot of pressure. Addie told me what happened at the mansion. That’s bad. Do you guys at least have an inkling of who the mole is?” I stop for a moment and he does too. We face each other.  “I have my suspicions, but I don’t want to say anything just yet. I want to get solid proof against this person first.” I start walking and he follows me. “I totally understand Benji. Please just promise me you will take good care of Addie. You know she’s like a sister to me.” He gives me a genuine smile. “You know I will Lydia, she is like a sister to me too.” We stop in front of the examination room. Just then Miss Spencer comes back with bags full of take-away. Benji looks at her with questioning eyes, it’s as if she read his mind and replied.  “Oh, Adelaide insisted I buy everyone food. She is hungry. I got everyone the same. It was just easier that way. I got a beef double-cheese burger with extra fries and a cup of coffee for everyone. I hope that’s fine?” She looks at Benji, the guards and me, with questioning eyes. “That’s totally fine, right guys?” I give them all a look so they would agree. Benji and the guys nod their heads and says thank you.  “Thank you for your effort Miss Spencer.” I say with an appreciative smile. “It’s no effort at all my dear. Is the Doctor in there with Adelaide?” Just as I was about to answer, the examination room’s door open. Adelaide sat in a wheelchair with the Doctor behind her, pushing the wheelchair. Oh my goodness… I just can’t keep staring at this Greek God in front of me with those broad shoulders. Adelaide’s P.O.V As the Doctor opens the door, the sight in front of me astonishes me. Everyone is standing right in front of the door. I know they are worried, but geez it’s not that bad. I look at them with questioning eyes. Miss Spencer answers. “I just got here with the food. I think everyone just wanted to check if the examination is complete. Here is your credit card Adelaide.” I take my card and give her a warm smile. “Thank you Miss Spencer. I think we must all go and sit at the hospital’s cafeteria and eat before we leave. I bet everyone’s starving. I know I am!” They all look at me like they are expecting me to say more. Doctor de Luca wheels me out of the examination room while giving everyone a smile. Lydia starts speaking, this time confident and not as shy as she was previously.  “You are always hungry Addie. Oh and hi Doctor, my name is Lydia Marx, Adelaide’s best friend.” She shakes his hand and they shake hands for a bit longer that what is necessary. As they are still busy shaking hands, he lets go of her hand and she gives him a small smile while blushing. They are still staring at each other like we’re not even here. Miss Spencer clears her throat and the Doctor quickly looks up at her.  “Doctor, sorry to interrupt. Adelaide’s parents are waiting for her at home, and they asked me to give them an update of what is going on with her. Can you please tell us what is wrong with her ankle.” Everyone’s attention is immediately on the Doctor.  “I examined her thoroughly, but unfortunately I can’t send her for X-rays right now to see if anything is broken, because of the swelling. My bet is that it’s just a sprain. She will have to come back tomorrow to have the X-ray done. I put some salve on her ankle. It will help with the swelling and bandaged her ankle up. She just has to take it easy on that ankle and try not to put too much pressure on it. Here is her prescription for some pain medication and anti-biotics and here is some crutches she can use in the meantime.” He walks into the examination room and comes back with two silver crutches. He hands the prescription and crutches over to Lydia while giving her a small smile. She blushes in return. “I’ll go and get the medicine at the pharmacy.” James says as he takes the prescription from Lydia. He is clearly pissed, because Lydia doesn’t eye him anymore. Just then the intercom goes of ‘Doctor de Luca, you are needed in room 102, please come immediately’ “Excuse me everyone, I have to go now. See you tomorrow Adelaide, and take it easy.” He gives one last glance at Lydia and she gives him a jaw dropping smile. Then he takes off. “Well guys, I don’t know about you, but I’m starving. Let’s go and eat!” Lydia says. Miss Spencer starts to speak. “Adelaide I don’t mean to be rude, but I think I’ll just take my food to go. I must still inform the Principal and your parents of your condition and my husband and kids are waiting for me at home.” She looks down, like she feels ashamed to leave me here.  “Miss Spencer, it is fine. I understand and I’m so sorry that you had to stay here with me. I truly appreciate it. Since I can’t stand up, can you please give me a hug?” She instantly comes my way and while giving me a hug she says: “It’s no trouble at all my dear. Please listen to the Doctors advice and take it easy.” She pulls away and asks Lydia if she needs a ride home. “No, it’s fine. Thank you for offering Miss Spencer, but I will catch a ride with Adelaide and the boys.” Just then James came back and I hear him scoff. Benji and Carl chuckle. “Okay Lydia. You guys take good care of the girls. Goodbye” With one last look at the guys, she walks away.  “Sooo… about that food… Can we please have it now? I’m starving.” Benji looks at me like he is about to burst my bubble. I need my food! “Miss Saunders, I’m afraid you will have to eat your food in the car. Your dad just informed me they are back home, so we should get going.” I give him a pout but at last agree.  So here we are, all in the car. Benji and I sitting in front and Lydia sandwiched between the two guys at the back. I’m trying to hold back my chuckle, but I can’t. So I started laughing out loud. Everyone looks at me like I’m crazy.  “I’m sorry guys, it just looks so weird that the petite Lydia is sitting between, what looks like, two giants. No offence guys.” Everyone starts laughing except Lydia she just gives me a glare. “Benji, I forgot to tell you, I want to make a quick stop before we go home. I’m sure my parents can wait a while longer, like I’m always waiting for them.” I say this while eating my burger and with a lot of sarcasm in my voice. They did not even come to the hospital to check on me .  “Where do you want to go?” Benji asks me. “Oh, I just want to make a quick stop at Daemon’s house, since we are going to be driving past there anyway.” Before Benji can say anything, Lydia interrupts him. “Are you for real girl? He did not even make an effort to come to the Talent show tonight.” She is clearly angry. “I just need to clear things up with him Lydia. It’s been two days. I just need to speak with him and clear the air so that I don’t have to walk around with this suffocating feeling in my chest anymore.” She looks embarrassed for the way she spoke to me.  “I understand Addie. I support your decision. Will you be able to walk okay with the crutches?” She asks with a worried expression on her face. “I’m sure I will manage. I don’t think it’s that difficult. Tonight is the night I’m sorting this sh!t out. So, is it fine if we stop there Benji? Please, Please…” I ask with my puppy dog eyes again. He always falls for it.  “Sure Adelaide if that is what you want to do, but on one condition…” he says with a grin on his face.    “Yeah sure, anything.” I reply. I’m desperate to see Daemon. I know it’s already after 10 pm, but he is normally still awake at this time. And at least I won’t wake his parents, because he told me last week, before our fight, that they are going away for the weekend.  Benji finally speaks. “I’m going to walk with you to his house, just in case you slip and you need someone to catch you.” He looks so serious, I start laughing. “Sure Benji, that’s fine.” He looks at me like I grew another head or something. “You’re agreeing just like that? Without any arguments?” He looks shocked. I start laughing. “Yeah Benji, I had a nice meal to eat and I’m going to see my boyfriend. So I’m happy.” I give him a wide smile. He just chuckles and shakes his head. At last we stop in front of the Gedeon’s mansion. Benji helps me out of the car and makes sure that I walk comfortably with the crutches. He walks beside me to make sure I don’t fall. It’s a Victorian style mansion which almost looks like a castle. It is three stories high. We have to climb a few steps up before reaching the huge patio.  We stand in front of the double-door, which is the main entrance to the house. It works with a security code. The main colors of the mansion is light grey and white. Benji eyes me questioningly. We hear loud music playing. I know he likes his music, so either he is just listening to music or having a party, but I doubt it’s the latter because I can’t see anyone inside the house. Daemon is probably upstairs in his bedroom. I ring the bell a few times, but there’s no answer. Luckily Daemon gave me the code for the door, so I punch in the numbers and the door opens.  “Benji will you please walk with me inside, because if he is in his bedroom, I might need help getting up the stairs?” I ask pleadingly. “Of course I will, I don’t want you hurting yourself any further.” I walk inside the house with Benji following me. “Adelaide let me walk through the house first to see if he is here, if he’s not here we can go up to his bedroom. I don’t want you over exerting yourself.” I just nod my head and he goes ahead and walks through the house. The music is still playing very loud, and it’s clearly coming from his bedroom. No wonder he did not hear the doorbell.  After a few minutes Benji returns and just shakes his head from left to right. “Nope he is not here, he is probably in his room, because that is where the music is coming from. Are you ready to take on those stairs?” He arches his eyebrows together, doubting if I will be able to make it. “I will be fine Benji. I will take it one step at a time and you can walk behind me, making sure I don’t fall, okay?” I give him a small smile and he smiles back. “All right Adelaide, let’s do this then." I just chuckle at him, while I start walking to the right side where the steps are at. “That’s the spirit Benji.” I start walking up the stairs with my crutches, while Benji is behind me, holding my waist.  “Can’t I just carry you up the stairs, it will be much easier and faster.” Once again I chuckle at him. “No Benji, besides I need to get used to this stuff, because I might be walking with them for a while if something in my ankle is broken.” I say this in a serious tone. “Don’t say that Adelaide. You heard the Doctor. He is sure it’s just a sprain.”  At last we are at the top of the stairs. “Phew… That takes a lot out of a person. I think it will be best if you carry me down.” I chuckle at him. He just smiles and replies: “Sure anytime Adelaide. Is it fine if I wait here for you. I seriously don’t want to be in the middle if you two start arguing. But be sure to call if you need my help.” I just nod at him and start making my way to Daemon’s room.  His door is open. Once I’m in front of his open door, the sight in front of me shocks me to the core. I step inside. He did not even notice me yet. I walk to his sound system and switch it off. It’s just then that I lose it. “What the actual F#ck Daemon!” They were busy making out passionately. He immediately steps away from Adriana. She is standing there only in her underwear. She immediately grabs her dress and put it on. Who knows what might have happened if I did not catch them red handed. This probably was not even the first time. Daemon walks to me. Am I imagining it or does his eyes look glazed over. It looks weird, but that’s beside the point. I put my hand in front of myself, showing him to stop. Adriana just sits on the bed with an evil smirk on her face. Damn b!tch!  “Stop Daemon, don’t come near me!” but he is still coming closer and closer. He grabs me by my upper arms and pushes me against the wall, making me hurt my back. “Benji, HELP!” I look over at Adriana, she just laughs…  Immediately Daemon is pulled away from me by Benji and he punches him in the face making Daemon fall to the floor. Damn, how did Benji get here so fast? He was probably just waiting outside the door. Adriana freezes up and is immediately sitting against the headboard of the bed with her knees up while she’s holding onto them. She looks scared. Benji continues to punch Daemon.  “Benji. STOP! Let’s just get out of here!” I can’t hold the tears anymore, they stream down my face. Benji looks up at me and sees the state I am in. “If you ever come near her again I will kill you! That goes for you too b!tch!” Benji says to Daemon and Adriana. Adriana is so scared by now she starts shivering.  Benji comes up to me. “Hold your crutches, while I carry you down.” I immediately do what he says. I just want to get out of here as fast as possible. He picks me up bridal style. I place my face on his chest and start sobbing uncontrollably. I don’t know if I will ever be able to stop. I just can’t believe Daemon did this to me. He broke my heart into a million pieces. But it worries me that his eyes looked so strange, maybe he got contact lenses? Who knows. And out of all the girls he could have fooled around with it had to be Adriana. It’s probably my own fault, because I wasn’t ready to have s*x with him yet...
