The air inside Landon’s car was cool and quiet… almost too quiet. Riley was in the passenger seat, making an effort not to stare. The low hum of the engine filled the silence between them, yet Riley could hear her heart beating so loud and quick like it was warning her and still she chose to ignore. She hoped Landon couldn’t hear it too. “Thanks for the ride,” she said, anything to break the silence. Landon looked at her briefly, then turned his eyes back to the road. "It’s no problem. Makes more sense than letting you use an Uber, especially since it’s getting dark. She nodded, eyes fixed on the side mirror even though nothing was there.
