9 My Reason

Caspian POV "I'm sorry you are hurting Abby, but I'm not the person you should be talking to. What happened between us was a mistake. I was an id*ot for not waiting. I'm not blaming you because I made the choice to sleep with you, but I think its best we not speak going forward." "I didn't like it. I only did it because I was scared," she says. Before I can tell her to leave my mother speaks. "Come in, Abby," she says, reaching out to take her hand. "Mom," I say her name in warning. "Enough Caspian. As you said, she is not to blame for your choices. Besides, I believe what she has to say is important," she says. My mother leads her over to the couch and looks back at me. "Go put clothes on before we continue this conversation," she says. I look down at my bare chest and guilt washes over me. Here I am standing in front of the woman that helped me destroy my bond with nothing but a towel on. I quickly make my way to my room and throw on comfortable clothes. By the time I return to the living room, my father is sitting next to my mother. His face is set in hard lines. I sit in a chair across from them. "Abby, what did you mean that you didn't like it and only did it because you were scared," my mother asks. My father growls, his eyes fixed on me. "I didn't make her do anything she didn't want to do and the fact you would think that of me hurts me deeply. I know I screwed up but I would never force myself on a woman." "No, that is not what I meant," Abby says. "I'm sorry, son. I shouldn't have entertained the thought. Despite how you have f**ked up, I know you would never force yourself on anyone," he says. I nod and focus back on Abby. "I'm the one that started flirting with Caspian. I was having feelings that I know my mother wouldn't approve of, and I thought I could make them stop by." Her words trail off and pink tinges her cheeks. "We get the gist of what you are saying, dear, but what would possibly make you want to sleep with someone that wasn't your mate," my mother says, giving me a pointed look before she turns back to Abby. "I was hoping by being with Caspian, the feelings I was having for my best friend would go away," she says. I look at her and blink several times before Titus growls. "Are you saying that you want my mate?" She drops her gaze to her hands, looking very uncomfortable. "Yes," she practically whispers. "So you thought by being with Caspian would stop whatever desires you were having for Fina," my mom says. I can't stop the growl at the thought of her wanting my mate as ridiculous as it sounds. "Enough boy. You should be thrilled she finds you repulsive and wants your mate. I was worried that if Seraphina agreed to return it would be difficult with her here," my father says. "Abby, why would you think your mother wouldn't accept you if you ended up being mated to a woman," my mother asks. "All she talks about is me having a strong mate to give her grandpups. She isn't going to be happy if I end up mated to a woman. I've seen the look of disgust on her face when she thinks no one is looking when we see gay couples in the pack," she says. "You said you liked me." My father glares at me. "I'm not saying it because I want her to, I'm just confused why she chose me." "I do like you, Caspian, just not romantically. It's the reason I chose you. I know that you are kind and wouldn't hurt me, but I promise what happened between us is nothing I want to repeat," she says. "It didn't happen just once." "You sound disappointed that she didn't enjoy it. I thought you wanted your mate," my father asks, bite to his tone. "I am not disappointed in the least. I just want to understand what she is saying. I want my mate and, as you said, I don't want any problems when she returns. I want to make sure this isn't just an elaborate story to justify what she did." "You mean if she returns. She hates us both," Abby says. "No if is not an option. I love her and I can't let her go. I will do whatever it takes to gain her forgiveness for my mistakes." "I promise you that this isn't some made up story. I really did it more than once hoping that it would be better, but it wasn't. No offense Caspian. I just wanted to stop thinking about Fina so I used you and still ended up thinking about her," she says. I glare at her and she giggles. "I really am sorry, Caspian. If I thought for a second that she was your mate, I never would have flirted with you," she says. "It's not your fault, Abby. I was flattered you wanted me and, instead of thinking about my mate, I decided to give into lust. Honestly, before then I never thought of you that way. After I realized Fina was my mate, she was the only woman I'd ever want. I've forgotten everything before her." Abby smiles but there is a sadness in her eyes. I know it's not about me but about her best friend. Seraphina POV I love my room and it's directly across from Nichole's. It's still strange not waking up in my own bed, but I feel more welcome in this pack than I expected. I stretch and stare at the ceiling. My thoughts automatically go to Caspian. I wonder if he is alone in his room or if Abby is with him. My chest aches at the thought of him touching her like he touched me. "Fina, you know that is not happening," Harmony says. "How do you know the fractured bond isn't stopping me from feeling the pain?" "Fina, I love you. No matter what you decide, I am with you, but I don't think they are together now. We both saw how terrified Caspian was when he saw us standing there," she says. "He was scared that he had gotten caught." "Fina, if that was true, wouldn't he have been relieved you found out? If he really wanted to be with Abby, why didn't he just accept our rejection," she asks. "I don't know, but I'm not sure the reason matters. Every time I think about them together it breaks my heart all over again. I know it shouldn't because they had no idea I was his mate, but it does. Then to hear him say if Abby was his mate it would be easier just confirms he felt something for her. Let's just get ready for training." I know she wants to say more, but I can't keep dwelling on this pain. I have to put one foot in front of the other until it doesn't feel like the other half of my soul is missing. I grab a quick shower and throw on yoga pants and a sports bra for training. I make my way across the hall just as Nichole's door opens. She smiles when she sees me. "Zane is waiting downstairs. After the first training session, we will grab breakfast. This training is with the main warriors. This afternoon will be with the elites, and we have a later training session for basic defense. Many of the omegas take that training," she says. I look at her shocked. Our alpha is great but training the omegas is not something that has ever been done in our pack. "Alpha Rogers believes that all pack members should be able to at least defend themselves. It's nowhere near as intensive as the training we do with warriors, but some of the omegas have actually changed rank based on their abilities," she says. "I'll have to talk to my dad. That is definitely something our pack should be doing too." A wave of sadness washes over me when I realize it's not our pack anymore. I push the thoughts away and we make our way downstairs. I smile when I see Zane surrounded by a handful of she-wolves. I wonder if he keeps his s*xuality a secret. Nichole must have seen the question written on my face. "Zane is bi and the whole pack knows. The she-wolves still try even though he has made it clear he wanted his mate," Nichole says. As soon as we step off the last step, I'm lifted into strong arms. "Sorry ladies, but I only have eyes for my new best friend Fina," Zane says and I giggle. I don't mind him using me as a shield. He sets me on my feet and the three of us step out of the pack house. When we reach the training field, I feel my body relax. Training is where I feel most comfortable. I can focus on it for a while and put all the hurt and sadness away for a while. I move to stand toward the front following Zane and Nichole's lead. A warrior near me looks me up and down like I'm meat on a menu, but I ignore him. "You are a hot piece of a** aren't you," he whispers. I glare at him hoping he'll get the message, but he doubles down and moves closer to me. My eyes meet Zane's and something flickers in them before he focuses back on what he was saying. I immediately know this is the pr*ck that betrayed and rejected him. When he reaches out to run his finger down my arm, I grab hold and twist. He yells out and drops to his knees. "Keep your filthy words and hands to yourself. You aren't hot or smooth. In fact, if I had to guess, you are trying to lie to yourself by acting like a disgusting t**t but don't include me in it. Are we clear?" He nods and I release my hold on him. "As I was saying, I would like to introduce you all to our new pack member, Seraphina. She is of Beta blood and will be joining the elite warriors. She will also be helping with pack training and I expect her to be respected," he says, staring at the a**hat who is back on his feet. "Am I clear," he says. "Yes, Zane," they all say in unison. I smile to myself when I realize I'm going to get the chance to spar with the pr*ck that hurt my new friend. I am definitely going to enjoy training today.
