The Gathering of Alphas

1543 Words
The supernatural world had been silent for centuries. Until now. The awakening of the Hollow sent a message stronger than any war cry. Every clan felt it. Every Alpha knew. Something ancient had returned. And the balance between wolves had shifted. --- Three days after the mountain fortress, Black Moon Manor became a place of preparation. The great hall that once hosted celebrations was now filled with maps, old records, and representatives from different territories. For the first time in generations... the Alphas were gathering. Not as friends. Not as allies. As survivors. --- Ariana stood near the balcony overlooking the courtyard. The manor looked different now. Not because it had changed. Because she had. Before, she had seen it as a mysterious place filled with monsters. Now she saw something else. A home. A dangerous one. But a home. "You are quieter." Kael's voice made her turn. "You notice everything, remember?" "Yes." "That must be exhausting." "It is." The honesty made her smile slightly. Ariana looked toward the courtyard. "Are they all coming because of me?" Kael leaned against the railing. "Not only because of you." "That's not an answer." "No." He looked at her. "It is the truth." She waited. "The Hollow is a threat to everyone." A pause. "But the Moonblood changes the balance." Ariana looked down. "I never asked for this." Kael's expression softened. "I know." The simple answer meant more than any speech. --- The doors of the great hall opened. The first Alpha arrived. The entire room became tense. entered without hesitation. Of course he did. He looked exactly as Ariana remembered. Calm. Confident. Dangerous. His eyes moved around the room before stopping on Kael. "Still alive." Kael did not move. "Disappointed?" "Not yet." Lucian sighed quietly. "Wonderful. They have known each other five minutes and already hate each other." Ariana almost smiled. Almost. --- More Alphas arrived. The leaders of ancient clans. Each one carrying their own history. Their own beliefs. Their own plans. Some saw the Moonblood as a miracle. Some saw her as a threat. Some saw her as an opportunity. And Ariana understood something important. The most dangerous enemies were not always the ones who attacked first. Sometimes they were the ones who smiled. --- The council began. Miriam stood at the center. "The Hollow has returned." The room became silent. Even the most confident Alphas listened. "The creature cannot be destroyed by strength alone." One Alpha scoffed. "Everything can be destroyed." Seraphine looked at him. "That belief created the Hollow." Silence. Nobody argued. Because everyone knew the history. --- Darian spoke. "So what is the plan?" Kael looked at him. "You came here. You tell us." A faint smile appeared. "Still suspicious." "Still deserved." Darian ignored the comment. "The clans must unite." Several leaders reacted immediately. Impossible. Ancient rivalries did not disappear because of one enemy. Ariana watched them. Hundreds of years of hatred. Hundreds of years of pride. How could they ever work together? --- Then one Alpha looked at her. "The Moonblood must choose a clan." The room changed. Ariana felt it. Every eye moved toward her. "Excuse me?" The Alpha continued. "Your power belongs with the strongest." Kael's expression became cold. "It belongs to no one." The Alpha looked at him. "You would say that." Ariana stepped forward. "No." Everyone looked at her. "I would say that." The room became silent. She continued: "I am not a weapon." Her voice was steady. "I am not a prize." A pause. "And I am not choosing anyone because they believe they deserve me." --- For the first time... some of the Alphas looked surprised. Not because of her power. Because of her courage. Kael watched her silently. And he felt something he had not expected. Pride. --- But not everyone was impressed. A voice came from the back of the hall. "Strong words." Everyone turned. A young Alpha stepped forward. Ariana didn't recognize him. "Let's see how long they last." Kael's eyes narrowed. "Who are you?" The stranger smiled. "Someone who remembers what happened to the last Moonblood." The room became colder. Ariana felt the mark burn. "Who?" The Alpha looked directly at her. "Someone who knows the truth." A pause. "Your bloodline was not created to save us." His expression darkened. "It was created to punish us." --- Nobody moved. Nobody spoke. Because if that was true... everything they believed about the Moonblood was wrong. The Alpha smiled. "And I think Ariana Blackwell deserves to know why." -- The great hall remained silent. The stranger's words hung in the air like a threat. Your bloodline was not created to save us. Ariana felt every eye turn toward her. But this time, she didn't look away. She was tired of being afraid of answers. "Who are you?" The young Alpha stepped forward. "My name is Adrian Vale." Miriam's expression changed. Ariana noticed immediately. "You know him." The elder remained silent. That was enough. "Who is he?" Seraphine answered quietly. "The last son of the Vale bloodline." Adrian smiled. "Not many remember us." Kael's eyes narrowed. "Because your family betrayed the clans." The room shifted. Ariana looked between them. "What happened?" Adrian looked at Kael. "Tell her." Kael didn't respond. Adrian's smile disappeared. "Of course." He turned toward Ariana. "Because the Alphas never tell the whole story." --- Ariana crossed her arms. "Then tell me." Adrian looked toward the ancient symbols on the walls. "Long ago, when the first Moonblood appeared, the clans believed she would unite all wolves." A pause. "And she did." Ariana waited. "But peace created fear." "Why?" "Because the Alphas realized something." Adrian looked at her. "The Moonblood had the power to take away their control." The room became tense. "Not through force." He continued. "Through choice." Ariana understood. The Moonblood was dangerous because she could change the system itself. --- "The first Alphas wanted obedience." Adrian's voice became colder. "They wanted a world where power belonged only to those strong enough to take it." He looked at Kael. "Your ancestors included." Kael's expression hardened. "My clan protected people." "Your clan protected power." The words struck the room. Ariana looked at Kael. She wanted to know if he believed it. He didn't defend himself. That surprised her. --- Seraphine stepped forward. "Enough." Everyone looked at her. "You speak as if history belongs to one side." Adrian faced her. "Doesn't it?" "No." Her voice was calm. "History belongs to those who survived it." Ariana felt the weight behind those words. Everyone here had lost something. Everyone carried a different version of the past. --- "Then what happened to the previous Moonbloods?" Ariana's question silenced them. Adrian looked at her. "Most were hidden." "Hidden from who?" "The Alphas." Ariana felt cold. "Why?" "Because every time the Moonblood tried to change the world..." He paused. "Someone stopped her." Kael's jaw tightened. "And you believe we killed them?" Adrian looked at him. "I believe the clans destroyed what they could not control." --- The accusation spread through the hall. Some Alphas became defensive. Others looked uncertain. Because deep down... they knew there were missing pieces in their own histories. Miriam closed her eyes. "I was hoping this day would never come." Ariana turned toward her. "You knew?" The elder looked at her. "Yes." The honesty hurt more than a lie. "You knew and you said nothing." "I was trying to protect you." Ariana laughed quietly. "Everyone keeps saying that." Her voice became sharper. "But no one asks what I want." The hall went silent. --- Kael stepped forward. "This ends now." Everyone looked at him. Ariana looked too. Not because he was speaking as Alpha. Because she wondered what he would choose. "The Moonblood is not a tool." His gaze moved across the room. "She will not be controlled by any clan." Darian watched him carefully. "And if she chooses someone else?" Kael didn't hesitate. "Then that choice belongs to her." Ariana looked at him. Because she knew how much those words cost him. An Alpha was trained to command. Not to release control. --- That evening, the Alphas remained at the manor. The meeting was far from over. Too many secrets had been uncovered. Too many old wounds reopened. Ariana stood alone outside, looking at the moon. She heard footsteps. Kael. "You heard everything." It wasn't a question. "Yes." She looked at him. "Is it true?" Kael was silent. "Some of it." "Which part?" He looked toward the forest. "The part where powerful people have always feared losing power." Ariana studied him. "And you?" The question was quiet. But important. "Are you afraid of losing power?" Kael looked at her. "No." A pause. "I'm afraid of becoming someone who needs it." --- Before Ariana could answer, a scream echoed from inside the manor. The two of them immediately moved. When they reached the great hall, chaos had already begun. One of the Alpha representatives was on the ground. Blood covered the ancient floor. The room was filled with panic. And carved into the stone wall behind him was a message. Not written. Burned. Three words. THE HOLLOW COMES. Kael's eyes turned gold. Because this was not an attack. It was a warning. And somewhere in the darkness... the Hollow was watching.
