6. The Twin

Friday, 5 pm

It's been two hours from my shift starts. I went to the storage room to get some milk. But I found Kate, sitting in one of a chair staring at her phone. Its wierd because usually Kate already gone one hour after her shift end.

"Kate?" I asked her. But she didn't response. "Kate?" I tap her shoulder to get her attention.

"Ah.. yes. Lucy?"

"Why you still here? "I asked.

"Ah.... I don't have lecture today. But...." she paused, hesitate and star back to her phone.

"Is there something wrong?"

"Hmmm...... Hasting." she said and point to her phone."I supposed, to help in the Hasting Gala this weekend. But, my mother got hospitalized today. I want to go back home this weekend to see her."

"What happen to your mother?"

"She... got an acident. She hit by a car." tears almost running from her eyes but she held it. I know exatcly the feeling, if I was here, I also want to run to my mother right now to see if she is okay. "But, my family said she in stabil condition after the surgery. They are waiting her to wake up. I am very worried. I just want to see her."

"Of course you are." I hug her. "I hope everything will be okay." I said. I can help much. probably. "When is the event?"

"Its saturday night. But the staff need to be there from the morning. there are 3 volunteers from the chosen to assist in the gala. I need to find my replacement immediately. But I can not think anyone right now."

" I can help. I do not have anything this weekend. But I do not have any special skill to assist."

"Really?"She stared me tahnkfully."No need special skill, you can help as waitress, the other two. Damiean will be assisting the bartender, and Ronald will also be waiter. with both of them you are in the safe hand."

"Okay then where is the event?"

"You really want to replace me?"

"Yeah... i think thats the least I can do for you Kate for all the thing you help me to adjust in here." I smiled

"THankyou Lucy." She hug me."Don't worry about the transportation. Hastings family will took you there. you just need to got to Damiean apartment that the pick up point. The schedule said they will pick up at 8 am."

"Okay. do not worry about it now. you can go back home now." I said.

"Thank you one more time Lucy. I owe you for this one. I'll text Damien and Ronald and I'll send their contact to you. You can just give them a message to coordinate."

"Sweet. No worries." I smile.

Then Kate, storm of the stoarage preparing her home trip.

Then I continue my works. I went back to the cafe and help with the order.

When I put the drinks and call the order name "Cecil"

Then a woman with black hair and asian looks coming to the counter and want to take the drink as if her name was called. But the eyes were familiar. Then I remember. She is the girl that coming out from Eric apartment. She noticed that I realized something that we have the same look.

"** xièxiè (thankyou)" she said. as if she tested me.

"*** búkèqì (you are welcome)"I answered.

"*******？nín huìshuō pǔtōnghuà ma？(can you speak mandarin)" she asked.

"*** yìdiǎndiǎn (a little bit)"

"*******。******* wǒzhīdào nǐrèndewǒ。 nǐděi rènshi wǒ gē gē (I know you recognize me. You must know my brother)" brother, is Eric her older brother?

"**，**** shìde ， wǒrènshítā (Yes, i know him)"

"****** qǐngbúyào gàosùtā, ********** nǐ cóngtā de fángjiān lǐ kàn dàowǒ ( do not tell him that you see me from his room)" she said

why, she want to keep it secret. isn't Eris his family? is there something happen to her?

Wait but its none of my busines, and probably I won't ever me him again. so I will not have a change to tell him anywhere.

"*** wǒ bǎozhèng (I promise)." I said.

then after hearing I promise to her. She smiled and go back to her table. And I realize that for all this time I talked to her, Eric was in that table watching her sister talking to me. He gave me a look and talk to her sister.

Eric, Cecil and Bianca

"Do you know her?" Eric ask Cecil her sister when she came back from the counter. She took a very long time talking with Lucy.

"Her? No, I just met her. I just ask whether did she replace the sugar to vanilla syrup or not."

"Then why you seem have a very long conversation."Eric asked again. But Cecil felt there a protectiveness behind his question.

"I just, asked where she came from since she look asian."

"What? why you asked that?" Eric furious hearing her sister asked Lucy that.

"Just asking, since there is familarity in her feature."

Stupid Cecil. in Eric mind.

Why she must asked that to Lucy, when before I got mad when Lucy asked the same question to her. And now my own sister asked that to her. I just making me the weird one.

"Do you know her?" Bianca asked Eric.

"Her? no. I mean. Just don't asked that question Lucy, not all asian is asian. they can be british."

"Well she is not sound like british. But she fine with it, it just you and your insecurities Eric."

"Cecil !" Eric raise his voice.

It always like, that between him and Cecil. This little devil always have a say in every word I told her.

"Okay, okay you guys please don't get into a fight in here. Let's talk about this weekend. You will be in the Hastings Gala right? Eric? I need you for my dance partner please." Bianca sneak to Eric's hug with her cute voice.

"Hmm... okay. eventhough I hate to see everyone elese there."

"You can revisit your conversation with my father." Bianca said

A conversation that I wished not to remember

"Yup." Eric short answer.

"Are you coming to Cecil?"Biaca asked.

"Hmmm..... if Chris is. We'll see. she said.
