Chapter Eleven --1--By the time they returned from Europe, the new wing was complete, decorated, and ready to be occupied. The communal lounge area for the children on the top floor opened to two bedrooms on each side and a full bath between each pair of bedrooms. The pink morning sun brightened the boys' bedrooms; the golden afternoon rays warmed the girls'. A narrow wooden stairway led to the basement so the boys could go directly to the gym without running through the elegant part of the house in sweat clothes. At the first landing down, one door led out to the grass in the back yard, another led into the house, and the third, smaller door opened behind the desk in Stansfield's new office.
