Chapter Eight --1--The patrol car paused at the top of the lane, the track of blue lights flashing. The white car came up behind it. They turned carefully off the highway and into the rutted lane, bouncing gently from side to side. They almost disappeared for a moment behind the bushes and bracken before they came past the first gatepost and paused.
