Her heart quivered with an emotion she could not name. Tears caressed the borders of her eyes. Perhaps all had not yet been claimed, and the land would one day be warm again. Did she dare hope her life could be the same? It was a fleeting thought. The sun disappeared from view as if uninterested in what was happening to her. She wanted to curse it, but could not bring herself to do so because her spirit had been nourished by its brief presence. She watched the clouds slowly adorn themselves with yellow, red, and violet light. Though the sun had passed, the sky was still alive: a visual poem to the light’s passing. What did it mean?
