Samantha’s eyes fluttered open, confusion clouding her vision. A blinding white light assaulted her senses, and she winced, instinctively raising a hand to shield her eyes. “She’s awake!” a voice exclaimed, a blur of white rushing towards her. Samantha blinked, trying to focus as she thought to herself. Why does this place look so familiar A woman in a crisp white coat leaned over her, her face etched with concern. “Can you hear me? Do you know where you are?” Samantha’s mind raced, trying to piece together the fragments of memory. The party, the betrayal, the crash… it all came flooding back. “The accident…” she whispered, her voice hoarse. “You fell down from the stairs and your boyfriend brought you in “ the doctor confirmed, her voice gentle. “But you’re safe now. It wasn’t all that serious” Samantha closed her eyes. What the hell was this doctor saying? She thought again. She remembered that she had been involved in a car accident. Just then in her thoughts she paused to look around. Shock washing over her. “I know this place, i…” She thought again before asking the doctor. “Did you just say my Boyfriend? The doctor nods. “Yes your boyfriend, he said he was so scared as you two were planning to get married next year, he has been here all night.” As the doctor left she said she would ask the nurses to bring him in. Out of fear Samantha scrambled for her phone, which was on the desk beside her bed, her fingers fumbling with the unfamiliar touchscreen. The date on the screen confirmed her worst fears: august 20th, 2019. Six years. She didn’t understand what was going on but somehow, She had gone back six years ago, to a time before the betrayal, before the pain. It was almost like someone was giving her a second chance. She remembered the event. That night She and Harrison had a misunderstanding and out of anger he had pushed her down the stairs and apologized by saying it was a mistake. Back then Samantha thought it was and forgave him. Then a week later, Harrison proposed to her, the elaborate setup at their favorite restaurant, the nervous anticipation in his eyes. She remembered the joy she felt, the naive belief in their forever. Now, the memory was tainted, a cruel reminder of his deceit. Just then a nurse walks in the room. She sits up, ignoring the nurses protests. “I need to get out of here,” she said, her voice firm. “But you’re not fully recovered—Your boyfriend just went to buy you something to eat” “I’m fine,” Samantha insisted, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. She felt a strange sense of urgency, a need to act before this window of opportunity closed. She discharged herself against medical advice, ignoring the concerned looks of the nurses. She hailed a cab, the city lights blurring past as she directed the driver to her old apartment. It was smaller than she remembered, the furniture outdated, the walls bare. But it was hers, a sanctuary from the storm that was brewing inside her. Just then there was a knock on her door, but she never responded and went straight to bed as she knew that it could have been Harrison or Elena. The next morning, she woke up with determination, but when she started freshening up, she saw the name of a person tatted on her right chest. It was so weird so she tried to rub it off but it wouldn’t budge. As she squinted through the mirror she noticed the name Eddison. And she wondered what the hell that could mean, without letting it get to her head she dressed up in a power suit and decided that she was going to give her husband now boyfriend a visit. She went to Harrison’s office, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and anticipation. When She found him in his office, his back to the door, his voice a low murmur as he spoke on the phone. Samantha’s entrance startled him, his eyes widening in surprise. “Samantha?” he said, his voice laced with confusion. “Thank goodness, I was so worried about...?” “We need to talk,” she said, her voice steady. He frowned, his eyes narrowing. “Is something wrong? I told you that everything was a mistake baby...?” Samantha walked towards him, her heels clicking against the polished floor. She stopped in front of his desk, her gaze unwavering. “I’m not going to marry you,” she said, her voice clear and strong. Harrison’s jaw dropped. “What?” “You heard me,” Samantha continued, her voice rising. “You did that on purpose, you were angry and you pushed me and trust me that’s not the only f****d up thing you will do to me. So to save everyone from embarrassment, I am choosing to leave this relationship.” Harrison’s face paled, his eyes darting nervously. “Sam, you can’t leave me, what are you saying? —” “I know what I want” Samantha interrupted. “I want you out of my life.” She turned and walked away, leaving Harrison standing there, his face a mask of shock and disbelief. Just then he became angry and began to run after her, not caring what the people in the office thought. Samantha was quick to use the elevator and it closed just right before he could enter. As she rushed out of the office building, she felt a sense of liberation, a weight lifting from her shoulders. But before she knew what was happening, she had bumped into someone who caught her from falling as she almost tripped. “Are you okay?” Raising her head to see who it was she saw that it was a face she recognized from her past and everything instantly stopped for a moment as she looked at his face. It was Edison Thorne. Her friend back in college, someone she hadn’t spoken to in years. Just then she remembered the name on her chest and she paused. Edison on the other hand tried to bring her back to reality. “Samantha?” She was shocked. “Eddison…” Just then she heard Harrison yell her name and she hastened her steps. “Can you give me lift?” Edison who is surprised brings out his car keys and runs behind her to the parking lot. But before Harrison could gain on them, Edison and Samantha had zoomed off.
