Appointing Ministers

In stories where someone got reincarnated into another world, that person sometimes gains powers as a result of being summoned. In their situation at first, they are reincarnated into another world because of a missile strike that killed them. And in an instant, their soul and consciousness are transferred to the body that they are in right now. Browsing their memories like a storage file, it seemed that magic here is rare, to begin with, magicians are highly valuable to many countries and most likely be granted a higher position.

Curious, the seven founding fathers appraise their magic by the device located inside the royal castle. It looked like a stone slate. Where a person touched a stone slate, the person’s magic type and abilities were displayed in people’s heads.

Nobles and even their knights are laughing mockingly at them as they want to test if they do have magic, although they are appraised before according to their memories except for George who has magic. They’ve like to see how does evaluations work.

The first one to touch is George Lindon/Ametus and got his diagnosis.

“The power to conjure, manipulate, shape metals.”

As one of the former engineers and architects, this ability made him excited. He’s desperately wanted to try out his abilities, but his sleepy head is obstructing him, and gave up, he can do it tomorrow he thought.”

The second one to touch is Adams Johnson/Balfax. Despite the heads-up that the nobles told them that he has no magic, he still insisted.

“The power to manipulate and controls plants and earth.”

For someone who’s adept and genius when it comes to botany this sure as hell is a cheat, in regards to earth maybe it's all about manipulating the ground like in the movies.

The third one is John Hughe/Campbell.

“The power to manipulate and conjure liquids.”

Seeing his magic information in his head, he heaves a sigh. His ability is so broad. If the magic appraisal device is right and told him that he can conjure liquid. Obviously, the people will see it as he can control water, but is he only able to do water? He thought.

The fourth one is James Pierce/Crowwell.

“The power to transfer consciousness into an object and manipulate it.”

Seeing that, he looked dubiously inside his head where the information about his magic is displayed. According to it, he can transfer his consciousness. They want to try it out badly, but they are mountains of paper to be checked. So, he gave up and hope for tomorrow.

The fifth one is Jay Sawyer/Godding.

“The ability to manipulate and control electricity.”

A power that will help them in the future when industrialization begins, but he does not know how much power he can generate. If it's less than a hundred volts, then it would be a hard start. But if and only if he can generate thousands of volts, then he is ability will be vital and crucial in the future as he will leap this civilization.

The sixth one is Alexander Curtis/Browmers.

“Clairvoyance and Appraisal.”

As a geologist and mineralogist in his former world being able to scan his surroundings, that will be convenient, he will not worry about losing his keys. However, this ability implies that anything that he wants. So, if he were to prospect mining sites, that would be efficient.

Lastly, Benjamin Williams/Timbester.

“Creation”

His abilities can create anything on his mind, he does not know what’s the limitation, but he sure wants to test it out.

One week later, the date is 15th Month 4. Kingdom of Ametus, Capital Londoln, Royal Palace.

After having a week since George inherited the throne all they have been doing are paperwork, drafting blueprints, and drafting new reforms and policies. Those three activities took most of their schedules. The only break that they can have is breakfast and dinner. They have no time to test the abilities that they have got.

At last, they have free time. George summoned his co-founders, dukes, duchess, and nobles to the throne hall. George was sitting on the exquisite throne; he is not wearing a crown that can identify him as a king due to the official coronation is rescinded due to the horrific tragedy that killed most of their government officials.

George stands to his seat. In his front are his co-founders standing on the red carpet. Royal knights are standing on both sides as for the nobles and the dukes. They are located on the left and right sides. Beside George is his chief attendant. Lumi Neileigh.

His co-founders bowed reverently.

“Thank you, at ease.”

With those words, his co-founders stood straight.

“Ladies and gentlemen, in front of me are the people who helped and supported me in the past seven days. They are the people that contribute to the domestic affairs of the kingdom. Despite their past, they’ve proven themselves useful. Since the attack, all the ministers of my father have died in a horrific tragedy, a nightmare to all of us. But we are still feeling the grief of losing someone on the attack that we fall to our emotions, most of the nobles are emotionally affected by the suddenness of the attack, that made them affects their work routine and cannot efficiently do it efficiently. I promised my people that the government is standing strong. I gave them a one-week bereavement leave. So, they can freshen up their minds and bodies. So, I’ll be straight to the point. I called those six people standing in front of me, to make them my ministers.”

George declared. The nobles and the dukes were surprised at the declaration.

“Why are you electing them as your minister your highness? It’s quite shocking. According to their past records on the academy, they are inept and don’t have a talent. Are you telling us that you want those incompetent people to manage domestic affairs?”

Hearing one of the nobles on the side, his co-founders were offended but they understand their feelings. It’s quite a surprise to appoint them as ministers if they are deemed incompetent due to their academic background. But this is different, the soul and knowledge inside those bodies are his genius co-founders. George finds a way to convince the concerned noble.

“Sir as I’ve already told you earlier. That they have showcased their skills while we are suffering from this horrific tragedy. In the past seven days, I have given them a task that I can personally evaluate, and it shows that they are competent. Don’t let the past controls your future I say. So without further ado, let’s start from the right.”

George appointed his ministers. Those are.

Adams Balfax: Minister of Agriculture

John Campbell: Minister of Health

James Crowell: Minister of Commerce

Jay Godding: Minister of Defense and Minister of Energy.

Alexander Browmers: Minister of Interior

Benjamin Timbester: Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

“Remember this, I expect results, so carry out your duties flawlessly and help me regain the kingdom’s strength.”

“Yes, your Majesty!” The new ministers bowed.

After the appointment of his new ministers, they conducted a minister meeting. Like cabinet meeting. In the conference hall of the royal castle. Inside is a long rectangular table and several seats on each side. His new ministers sat on the right side while the three dukes sat on the left side. As for George, he sat on the middle-end of the rectangular table besides him is his attendant Lumi Neileigh.

“So, let’s start, first of all, where are we at in the battle between the Principality of Bayronian?”

“I’m happy to report to you your Majesty, that we successfully intercepted the destroyers of the Bayronian in the Remaine strait, we are sending reinforcements to the army to support them in their ground invasion as we speak.” Lucy Contour reported

“The invasion of the capital of the Bayronian is preparing on our western borders. 50,000 of my troops will be deployed to subjugate the capital.” Carmine Fortress reported.

“The air force will be deployed along with the ground forces of the army for air support and air dominance. The numbers of our wyverns are greater than the Bayronian, we have 1,000 wyverns while they currently have 200. “

“Okay good, but once you defeated their main forces, I want you to immediately capture their capital and make them surrender. Also, if possible, I want you to end this war quickly. As we are still facing a recession, we can’t afford a long war.”

After their brief report, George ordered them to leave the conference room. He will now start the cabinet meeting.

“I’ll report first Your Majesty” The minister of Agriculture, Adams Balfax said as he gives out documents to all of them.

“Listen Lumi, here I will show you, why I chose them as my ministers,” George said with a serious look. Lumi on the other hand sat on one of the chairs and received the file given by Adams.

“First of all, I would like to start why we’re having a food crisis. It’s simple. Instead of planting crops, they are planting cotton.”

“Huh? Is that the reason?” Lumi asked dubiously.

“Yes, as I saw the cotton fields myself. I have never seen a single field that is growing food crops.

“What?” Lumi's eyes widened.

“Those inedible fields are the root of this country’s food crisis. All the fields of this kingdom are cotton fields. Well, I may know the reason for that as I was sorting through the paperwork. I noticed it. With the expansion of the Demon’s Lord Domain, the demand for clothing and other daily necessities has skyrocketed. Of course, the demand for raw materials has shot up, too. With the selling price of cotton flowers rising and being able to sell as much as we produce, the farmers have entirely stopped growing food crops they had produced until that point. Crops grown to sell to others instead of to eat are called cash crops, which has led to a lowering of this country’s food self-sufficiency rate.

Lumi was speechless about the cause of their food shortage. They had always assumed that it was bad weather, or that a country had just had poor soil, to begin with. This was a concrete reason. I didn’t expect Adams to be able to see the reasons.

“But don’t let it go down your Majesty, It's not too late for agricultural reforms. First, we will place limits on the growth of cash crops, bring back the growth of food crops, and improve our self-sufficiency rate. The kingdom will pay subsidies to help support the transition. We will replant the fields with beans, potatoes, and wheat. In fact, this kingdom has 44% of arable land. Just by having this much land, we can create more paddy fields to increase our food supply.” Adam’s reported eloquently.

“I see, thank you, Adams. We have already secured funding for your agricultural reforms”

“Thank you, Your Majesty,”

The next to report is the minister of Health. John Campbell.

“Sir, I’d plan to conduct a seminar about the food and hygiene safety to the populace. This kingdom's health environment is poor, as we can clearly see horse dung lying on the streets. Those dungs if dried can drift into the air and carried, t those who are unlucky to inhale it. will result in some respiratory diseases. By cleaning our environment, we can avoid it. As I was digging into the paperwork. I saw that 1,200 people died due to diseases.” Adams said.

“Hm, then tell me what you need. And I will personally arrange it.”

“It's on the file, your Majesty”

George looked inside the documents.

“Oh, okay. This program and reforms cost a huge sum of money. Focus on cleaning first then if we are able to increase our economy, I will add the necessary funding.”

“Thank you, Your Majesty,”

Adams concluded. The next to report is James Crowell.

“Your Majesty. As I was saying to you last week that we are facing internal issues? I already found it. We have 23 from the noble’s family who are involved in embezzlement. They embezzled so much money that they can pay so we have them arrested and seize their assets. And I would like to thank the people inside here that are helping me skimming through the documents. I’ve already secured lost treasures. By selling most of the royal golden assets. I believed that you can fund Mr. Adams reforms and seminars.”

“That’s good, thank you, James, do you anything left to say?”

“Yes, I proposed a complete overhaul on governmental budgets. As far as I can remember, we are spending too much on the military. If there is no budget that going to the people, I fear that your position will be in danger”

“I know, I will do that, thank you, James.”

“Likewise, your Majesty”

Next is Jay Godding.

“Your Majesty, I’ve already drafted a blueprint on our future power plant that will be built 50 kilometers west of the kingdom, and as for the proposed technology to the dukes, It will take time since we don’t have the proper equipment yet.”

“Well, I would love to test our abilities after this, from what I can say is that my abilities can conjure metals. If I can conjure for example titanium and aluminum. That would lessen our budget.”

“If for example, you made it. Then I would love to use that as our main sources of resources, imagine the things that we can do if you can create all the metals in the periodic table. That would be a cheat.”

“Well let’s hope for that”

The next to report is Alexander Browmers.

“Your Majesty, in the last seven days, I am surveying the entire kingdom. And I saw many possible mining sites that we can build in the mountains from the east. After the meeting, Lumi Neileigh who was sitting beside George is speechless. She did not even have the chance to speak up as she doesn’t know what they are talking about. Especially when the minister of interior is blabbing about the words, she’s not familiar with. Suspicions are growing inside of her. Just who are these people in these meetings? They are a completely different person from what she has known.

“Then lets us test our magic on the backyard.”

Just outside the royal palace, the king, ministers, and Lumi are in the backyard. The reason is to test the abilities that they longed for. At last for the last seven weeks. They can now test it.
