Jealousy is Deadly

2442 Words
Brooke As Lowell and Dimitri stared at each other with daggers in their eyes, I knew this could end badly. I called for Maxwell, Ky’s father. I had to come up with a way to de-escalate this tension before someone got killed. Maxwell, I need you downstairs by the kitchen door. Lowell is probably going to get killed. I mind-linked Maxwell. What happened? Are you okay? He shot back quickly. I'm fine. He decided to touch me… and I am not in the mood for games. I sighed heavily. I’ll be right there. He stated. Maxwell could hear Dimitri yelling at Lowell as he made his way to the door. Maxwell stood at the back door with his arms crossed. As my father’s beta, he’s in charge until my alpha ceremony tomorrow. He stood at a hefty 6’5, an easy 300 pounds of pure muscle and a “no f***s given” attitude when it came to the safety of Ky and myself. His piercing blue eyes were gentle yet serious. Maxwell’s salt and pepper hair was the only thing that gave his age away; see, werewolves age slower than humans and thus live longer too. Ky wasn’t too far off, just a tad bit shorter at 6’2 and a solid 250 pounds with jet black hair and green eyes like his mother, Jessica. But Dimitri, oh, my lovely mate. He and Maxwell were the same height and build, except on the more lean and toned side. He could still pack a punch with no effort at all. His dreamy emerald green eyes and wavy brown hair were to die for. “Okay, boys, let's get inside and eat before we decide to tear each other apart… and by each other, I mean Lowell, you're probably going to get your ass beat by these three. I’d tread lightly if I were you.” I pushed past Lowell and into the kitchen. The smell of homemade lasagna flooded my senses. My mouth instantly watered. “Oh my goodness, Ms. Haveli, dinner smells absolutely delicious.” I grinned. “Oh, Ms. Whiteflower, I knew it was your favorite. Luna asked me to make all of your favorites tonight to help you feel better.” She approached me and wrapped me in a big hug. “I am so sorry about the Alpha and Luna, honey.” She mumbled. “It’s okay. Their memory will live on through this pack.” I pulled away, wiping a stray tear that had fallen from my eye. The boys filed in one after another, greeting Ms. Haveli one after another. I debated on showering, but I decided to wait until after dinner because of how hungry I was. “Go, sit. I will have the others set the table and bring everything out.” She shooed us out of the kitchen. We all chuckled at her actions and walked over to the dining room. A multicolored chandelier hung from the ceiling with a giant oak wood table that could easily seat twenty people and was placed in the room's center. White and dark blue drapes hung from the walls with our pack insignia—a white wolf howling from atop a mountain. I sat at the table's head, Dimitri to my left, Ky on the right, and Lowell beside him. I shifted my gaze to Maxwell, who stood behind Lowell, his arms folded in front of him. “Maxwell, are you not going to join us?” I asked. “I will as soon as the omegas bring the dishes out. I want to make sure this one doesn't make a move.” He replied. I nodded my head in response. The shuffling of feet caused me to turn my head towards the kitchen door. Three omegas graced us with their presence as they brought out a full sheet platter of lasagna, side salads, garlic bread, and plenty of drinks. Everyone began to drool from the intoxicating aroma of the feast that was being set before us. Even Maxwell was watching intently as the omegas placed the ceramic platters in front of each of us. Maxwell held back behind Lowell for a moment longer before he rounded to the other side of the table and sat beside Dimitri. “Oh, these look so delicious! Thank you, Ms. Haveli!” I exclaimed to the kitchen staff as we all waited for Dimitri’s parents. As if right on cue, Hyatt and Elaina danced their way into the dining room. Hyatt twirled Elaina right over to her seat beside Maxwell. They both chuckled, kissing one another before sitting. “Your mother loves to dance, Dimitri, maybe you and Brooke could take a few lessons.” Hyatt chuckled. Dimitri shook his head in faux revolution. “Okay, enough of that already, please.” I giggled at the obvious affection he had for his parents and began filling my plate with food as Elaina engaged in conversation with me, bringing up the Alpha Ceremony for tomorrow. I internally cringed at the thought. I am just not ready. I envied that the boys were so carefree, chatting about everything, not about the ceremony, while I screamed internally, my mind refusing to believe the inevitable. “I almost forgot about that. Thank you for the reminder. I do need to get a dress for that. What did you have in mind for this whole thing?” I asked. Elaina placed her hands in her lap and cleared her throat. “I think we need to discuss that in private.” Is something wrong, Elaina? I telepathically asked her. That man next to Ky has been staring at you since we arrived. I’m not too fond of it. She replied. Ah, yes, Lowell. I think he’s going to become a problem. He’s already crossed the line once today. I mentally rolled my eyes. As soon as we are finished here, we can speak in my office. Sounds like a plan. Elaina turned and smiled at me. As dinner was well underway, Dimitri and Ky picked up casual conversations about sports. Hyatt and Maxwell spoke of my parents and what security measures were in place for me until after the ceremony. Maxwell would continue to be my beta until Ky was trained and ready for the position before he stepped down. After we were all stuffed and full to the brim with food, I sat back in my chair and let out a huff. “Phew, that was amazing as always.” I grinned. “That was absolutely wonderful, Ms. Haveli.” Elaina complimented. “It was my pleasure, Luna.” Ms. Haveli replied with a bow. “Well, let’s get this meeting started in my office. Lowell, you are excused.” I glanced over to Lowell, whose gaze gave my skin the heebie-jeebies. I’m going to mark you tonight if it means that creep will leave you alone. Dimitri thought I turned to Dimitri wide-eyed. Why tonight? We needed to wait for the mating ceremony… I replied after hearing his thoughts. That bastard isn’t going to stop coming for you until I do. We all rose from our seats. I grabbed Dimitri’s hand and ran up the stairs. “Elaina and Hyatt, take the elevator!” I shouted on the way up. Night Moon’s territory stretched for over 300 acres around the interior of Alaska. The packhouse rested just outside the village of Tanana. Its beautiful scenery and lush plants and wildlife made for a perfect area to settle down in, especially if you didn’t like city life. Most of our supplies were flown in or hauled by truckers and sleds. The packhouse consisted of 8 floors that housed over 2000 pack members. The first floor was the main living area, a large kitchen and dining area, and ballrooms. The second floor had 180 rooms and held the omegas with their families. The third was the gammas, their mates, and had over 200 rooms and recreational facilities. It went on as such until the last two floors: the seventh floor held my office and my betas room, additional living area, and a second kitchen and the alpha rooms were on the eighth. As Dimitri and I ascended to the 5th floor, I kept my ears focused on Lowell’s slow-pacing footsteps as he approached the staircase. I don’t know why I had this eerie feeling in the pit of my stomach. “Dimitri, could you… stay with me in my room tonight?” I asked him as we continued up. “Why would you feel the need to ask, love?” He replied, lightly squeezing my hand. “I don’t know. I don’t like to assume these things, especially not yet.” Shrugging my shoulders, I smiled back at him as we approached the seventh floor. Elaine and Hyatt were already waiting by the office door along with Ky and his father, Maxwell. “Oh, you lazy bastard.” I shot at Ky with a playful smile. I approached the door and unlocked it quickly, allowing everyone to enter before me. I shut the door and locked it behind me. Thankfully, my office was soundproof. I approached my desk and sat on the edge facing the group as they took their seats amongst the chairs and couches provided. “So, dresses, themes, food, security.” I listed off, reaching over to grab a notebook and pen. I began writing out the lists of items before we discussed each topic. The meeting went on for a few hours. By the time we were finished, the sun had long gone behind the mountains. Going over a quick summary of the events listed for the following day, I mind linked Ms. Haveli the grocery list for tomorrow’s catering. I informed her of what needed to be done. “Brooke, I have you covered with the dress and shoes. I will get a few of the omega females to help with hair and makeup.” Elaina explained as she rose from her seat. Hyatt mirrored her movements and embraced me in a small group hug before retreating to their guest room. “Maxwell. Is there any way you can station a guard or two outside of my door tonight? I don’t feel… safe with Lowell roaming around.” I lowered my head in shame. “I’ll be outside. Don’t fret. He won’t get to you. I do need to speak to you after the ceremony about his gamma position, though.” Maxwell stated, bowing his head to Dimitri and myself as he took his leave. I let out a sigh of relief and hopped off my desk. Only to be pushed back to it by Dimitri’s body. “Finally alone. I’ve wanted to do this since dinner.” I raised my brow before he lowered his lips to mine. We shared a passionate kiss. Sparks erupted between us as I slipped my hands under his shirt. I remembered we were both sweaty and smelly. I pulled away from him for a moment and just stared into his eyes. Oh, how I could get lost in those green eyes of his. “Love, we need to shower… badly.” I pretended to sniff my armpit, my face contorted in disgust. Dimitri burst into laughter and picked me up, carrying me over his shoulder back to my room. I just propped myself up with my elbow and sulked. “I’m not a child.” I fussed. “I know, I just like the view of your ass from up here.” He joked, giving it a gentle pat. Dimitri stopped before my bedroom door and set me down. I unlocked the door and pushed the door open. “What in the f**k?!” I whispered, stepping into my room. It looked as if a tornado had run through my belongings. I scanned the room from left to right. My bed was flipped upside down. The canopy was broken in half. The French glass doors that led to my balcony deck were broken, shards of glass scattered throughout the room. My dressers and flat-screen TV were smashed. The rugs were shredded. I maneuvered through my room and ran straight into my closet. I brought my hand to my mouth as tears pooled in my eyes. Every single article of clothing I had ever owned was torn to shreds. Dimitri approached me from behind, broken glass and wood crunched beneath his steps. “What the f**k happened?” He sneered before turning around and stomping out of the room. “Dimitri, wait!” I shouted after him as I carefully guided myself through the debris. Maxwell, I mind linked him sniffling. Brooke, Dimitri, and I are on our way back. Hang tight. Maxwell stated. I tiptoed through the glass and over to my now-destroyed suede blue couches. I sat down, not caring what was on the pulled cushion and the tears that were brimming my eyes began to fall down my face... I placed my head in my hands and sobbed. Who would do this, Kali? Lowell's stench is all over this f*****g room, Brooke. Kali growled. What? I can’t smell anything. I sniffled. Yeah, because although he was able to mask his scent to your human nose, he couldn't f*****g hide from me.h I can smell his rancid stench all over this room. Kali growled menacingly. A loud gasp from the door caused me to look up. My eyes were red, and the ever-flowing tears blurred my vision. “Brooke, what happened here!?” Elaina asked, placing a hand on her chest. Worry and sadness laced her tone. “Kali said it was Lowell…” I sniffled, wiping my tears from my cheeks. “I need to move my room tonight. I can't stay here… not like this.” Ms. Haveli, please send the gammas and omegas to my floor, please. And tell them it’s an emergency. They are going to need gloves and cleaning supplies. I mind linked Ms. Haveli. I shifted my gaze to Maxwell and Dimitri as I rose from the destroyed couch and tiptoed back through the debris to the door. “All of my clothes are destroyed,” I whispered. My face turned to stone. I couldn’t process all of this s**t quickly enough. My emotions came to a halt altogether.
