Consoling

Dimitri I sat in the community room in our packhouse. My parents rushed into the room and flipped on the TV. A news reporter was announcing the murder of Alpha Georgio and Luna Ingrid. My jaw hit the floor. I knew exactly who they were, Brooke Whiteflower was the first person that came to my mind, I knew she was my second chance mate. My heart raced as I thought of my oldest and most cherished friend. We were inseparable when we were kids. Our parents would spend summers in each other’s packs for a season. The last visit we had was just a few months ago, when Brooke turned 18. My heart sank to my chest at the thought of Brooke’s parent's murder. They were like family to me, basically my aunt and uncle. My shoulders dropped as I sat back on the couch, watching this woman’s lips move as she explained the brutal scene and how it was just a simple case of wrong place, wrong time. My anger boiled beneath the surface, and I couldn’t hold it in anymore. “That’s bullshit! Wrong place, wrong time, my ass!” Like a volcano, I erupted, shouting as I leaned forward, slamming my fist onto the coffee table so hard that it split in half. “Mom, dad, we need to go back to Alaska. I need to see her!” I demanded as I rose from my seat. My father, Alpha Hyatt Cosgrove, grabbed his cellphone and left the room. I assume he was arranging our flight to Alaska. Our pack was just outside of Saint Helen’s city limits and sat on over 8 acres of land. Our pack was relatively smaller than Night Moon’s, with about 800 pack members. We are coming, Brooke, don’t do anything f*****g stupid. I thought to myself as I darted to my room to pack. The stench of the woman from last night still lingered in the air and on the sheets. I still don’t know why I took that w***e to bed. Well, I can’t exactly say that; I’m an alpha. I have s****l needs that had to be taken care of. It’s just the “who” that I was questioning. Natalie is the pack's w***e. Why I would choose her to release said frustrations was beyond me. Hell, the memory of the entire night is foggy. I shook my head, and my face scrunched in disgust as her scent assaulted my nose. “Oh dear Jesus f*****g christ.” I sneered as I ran into my closet to grab my duffle bag, quickly filling it with clothes. “Michael, send an omega to clean my room, please, while I’m gone…” I mind linked Michael, my best friend and son, to the current beta, Kevin. “What’s going on? Where are you guys going?” He sounded worried. “We are going to Alaska. Alpha Georgio and Luna Ingrid were murdered in New York during the Summit.” “I’ll take care of it while you are gone. Just go. We will talk about it later.” He sighed. All of us knew it was about to get real ugly. Brooke nor the council would ever let this go. I wonder how she’s feeling right now. God, I wish I could talk to her, but she lives in a remote area of Alaska that doesn’t really get cell reception, so her need for a phone is useless. I pulled myself from my thoughts as I ran down the stairs to meet my parents. Michael, my future beta, and Brad, son of the head of security and one of my guards, were present to see me off. Until the screeching of a harpy invaded all of our ears. I dropped my bag to cover my ears. “What in the actual f**k was that?” Brad yelled. The three of us turned to the source of the sound, a look of disdain painted on our faces. “Natalie, what the hell is wrong with you? Are you dying or something?” Michael spat as he bent down to grab my duffle bag. Natalie stomped up to me and crossed her arms over her chest with a heavy umph. “Where the hell are you going without me?” She sneered. “None of your business, woman.” I seethed as I grabbed my bag and walked out of the packhouse to the car. “Michael, tell my parents to meet me at the airfield.” I stormed over to the car. My Gamma Preston and another guard, Wyatt, greeted me and took my bag as they opened the back door for me. As I jumped in and closed the door, they hopped into the front seats and took off like a bat out of hell. My cell phone rang in my pocket. I slipped my hand into the pocket and pulled it out. The screen read “Blocked.” What the hell? I thought, as I answered it. “This is Cosgrove.” I kept my manners professional. I was unsure if this was a personal call or a business call. My clients often call me from a private number. “Dimitri, it’s Ky.” “Holy s**t, you have a cell?” “Haha, funny. We do, but we don’t like to use them. Anyways, Hyatt called and told me you were coming here. I want to let you know, Brooke is not in the best of moods, but she needs your support. Besides, she likes you more than me, so she might be fine with you showing up.” Ky replied. “Yeah, I have a feeling she’s going to need more than just…” I was cut short. ‘Woah, Woah, I don’t need the deets. Get off my phone. See you in 6 hours.” Ky laughed and bid me goodbye. I shook my head as I stared at the screen on my phone. “That little s**t, I was going to say she was gonna need a run to the mountains. Dirty-minded dick.” As we arrived at the airstrip just outside of the pack's territory, I quickly climbed out of the backseat and grabbed my bag from Preston. “I’ll be back in the better part of a week. Michael is in charge until I get back.” I pointed to Preston as I ran up the stairs of the jet. To my surprise, my parents were the ones waiting for me. I shook my head and threw my bag into one of the overhead compartments, and sat down on a seat adjacent to my father. “Ready to go, sir?” The hostess asked as she came by to pour me a small glass of whiskey. “Yes. Let’s get the hell outta here. Alaska, here we come.”
