Direfall didn’t feel like Tenebrous. Though both belonged to the North, the air there was something different, warmer. It had taken twelve hours by carriage—mercifully short, according to Vaelen, since Tenebrous was located at the center, and Direfall was just southeast of it. The longest Northern courts would require more… two overnight stops, if they didn’t want to arrive half-dead and cold-boned. The carriage peeled off toward the inner courtyards with Grennar and Talia, while she walked beside Vaelen … Kaan flanking them, along with the blond-haired guard whose name she hadn’t caught. The arena reminded her of the one she’d glimpsed from Vaelen’s chambers back in Tenebrous. But this—this was alive with noise. The crowd was staggering.
