“Hello, mummy-papa, I got a good job at Royal Info Tech company,” Rakesh informed his parents with great pride and in one breath. He was talking to his parents, so ecstatic and excited after many days, weeks, and months. Before that, he had been living a nomadic life, always hunting for a good job. He had no time for anybody or anything. He was completely cut off from the social world.
“Congratulations, beta… We are very happy for you…” Both parents were elated. There was no limit to their joy and happiness. It was the greatest moment in their lives as well. Every parent waits for this great moment when their children achieve something spectacular.
“Beta, Mata Rani has fulfilled our wish at last,” Rakesh’s mother said with a huge grin. She was overwhelmed. She also shed tears of joy and happiness.
“I’ll offer a puja and prasad to Mata Rani and distribute laddus to our neighborhood and entire locality.” Rakesh’s mother wanted to celebrate her son’s achievement with a grand celebration.
“Okay, mummy-papa, I’ll call you back.” Rakesh was hurried. He would have to break this great news to his beloved girlfriend, Shikha.
“Okay, beta…”
Rakesh was jovial. His hard work had paid off with fruitful results eventually. He had been trying for a good job for the last three years. In the meantime, he had to work with many companies for a small salary, one that wouldn’t fulfill his daily needs. After completing his MBA in finance from a private MBA college in New Delhi, he had to work as a salesman for many small and big companies. He had to work like a daily laborer 24/7. At the end of the month, he received only a few bucks in his hands. He was not happy or satisfied with his job, as well as with his meager salary. But he was stuck in the job only to gain work experience, since every big company wants not only a degree but also job experience. Eventually, after three years of working in a company, he had gained enough experience to immerse himself in the big MNCs for higher salaries.
For the last three years, Rakesh couldn’t meet his childhood girlfriend, Shikha. They had only phone calls and SMS as the only mediums of communication between them. He missed her like hell. His mind, heart, body, and soul were trembling to meet her. He was dying to catch a glimpse of her. He was thirsty for her love, care, and affection like the Jacobin Cuckoo waits for the first drop of rain to quench its thirst. During these three years, he had worked so hard that he was unable to give her enough time.
