** EVA’S POV [SIDE POV] **
I’m standing in line for coffee at the café before I head home, and out of the corner of my eye, I spot a semi familiar face. I turn to confirm of course, and low and behold, it’s definitely him. Jaxon Sullivan.
God Jasmine wasn’t underselling him at all, I mean of course I’ve seen the hunk with my own two unwitting eyes and have to admit he is eye candy to say the least. Tall, dark, and handsome, I stand by my first review. He’s standing with a couple guys as big as him, I assume football buddies of his, when I see him tense and fish around his pocket for his phone. Upon seeing the name on the screen he rolls his eyes and visibly sighs.
I see him wave to his buddies and wander over to a table in a corner closer to me, away from prying ears, or so he thinks. I listen hard as he answers.
“Hello?” Another eye roll. “Yes mother I am.” He looks mad? Maybe annoyed? Perhaps both. “Yes mom I took her home, why are you asking?” There’s a pause on his end, and then, “Mom, stop. Please.” He sighs again, pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger like he’s developing a headache.
Don’t worry man my mom sucks too, I get it. I think bitterly.
Oh, okay now he’s mad. I see his nostrils flare a bit and he roughly shoves his fingers through his cropped hair, “Well number one, I don’t really see how it’s any of your business to begin with. And number two, I don’t understand your issue with her… She is sweet and tough and has beat all the odds against her in her life. I would think that you’d admire that.”
Is he defending Jas? What the hell?
He’s listening and getting angrier I think. “That’s the most judgemental thing I think I’ve ever heard you say. Mom she’s a good girl that just needs some help… and for your information she’s asked nothing of me, she even stayed at that god awful shelter the ministry sent her to rather than with me so I don’t know why you would immediately go to that train of thought.” He was… whisper-yelling? I don’t know what you call it but he’s mad.
Another pause while he listens. “No! She’s never asked me for a god damn dime Mother. You know what, I don’t need to listen to this s**t. I’m going to try to help her because she is an innocent in all of this and it’s about damn time someone treated her that way. Goodbye.” I see him violently stab at the end call button on his phone and shove it back in his pocket. He hangs his head in his hands for a moment, then sits up, mentally shaking off his anger and gets up and walks back to his friends.
I turn quickly away to avoid him seeing me, Whoa. This guy so has a thing for Jas. Holy crap.
