Chapter 4 Cal needed a break from sorting through closets. Other than the quick walk-through to look for leaks, he hadn’t been in the attic in years. It was a warm day and the summer would only get hotter, so he figured he should get started while there was still a breeze in the air. The attic was a wide-open space where someone had once gone to the trouble of installing linoleum and plaster board. The attempt at creating a finished space didn’t do much aesthetically. He could see dust motes floating in the sunlight and a heavier layer along the windowsills. He sneezed as he fought with windows that refused to budge. Some brute force and frustration finally succeeded in opening three of them enough to get some air moving and raising more dust. He looked around, not sure where to start.
