I was indignant and beyond furious.
That maid, Mandy, had the audacity to spew venom about me to Athena!
Even though I was sure that she had said more, I also krw that Athena wouldn’t tell me everything. She was too kind-hearted for her own good. She was always looking for the good in people, even those who didn’t deserve it. But it didn’t matter. I wouldn’t let this slide. Not after what she had endured, and certainly not now that she was mine to protect.
I dragged her out of the mall and into one of the sleek black cars waiting for us. Athena didn’t say a word. She didn’t need to. Her silence only fueled the fire inside me.
