Chapter 6

Oliver could sense them coming before they reached his door. He sighed as he gently tried to move the she wolf that was currently lying on his chest. Last night had been unexpected for him, he smiled to himself as he recalled how Freya's kiss had tasted on his lips. She groaned in protest in her sleep as he slipped from the bed and made a dive for the door in an attempt to open it before his Beta knocked on it. He was a second too slow and the thud rolled around the room before he managed to snatch open the door stopping the second knock, but he was too late to move his body into the gap before Iain and Calen saw Freya laying in his bed wearing his shirt. Calen smiled and sent a wink towards his alpha. Iain, on the other hand, frowned. "Are you her second chance mate or something?" Iain said, trying to mask the disdain in his voice, but nothing could mask the face of disgust that he made as the words came out. "Do you think if I had found my mate, I wouldn't have told you both immediately?" Oliver didn't care if his reply conveyed that he was annoyed. His Gamma was once again walking on thin ice, and this time, he wasn't going to tolerate it. "Of course we do!" Caleb laughed as he elbowed Iain in the ribs. I wouldn't mind if she were our mate. Gunnar hummed, catching Oliver by surprise. He mulled that statement over for a moment. She was an Omega, but no, he didn't mind that notion either. Once upon a time, that thought would have horrified both him and his wolf. When did he change his line of thinking? Surely it couldn't have just been meeting Freya? "You missed breakfast." Calen said, his smile wide and hopeful as he tried to tactfully change the subject. "That's because he was too busy getting his d**k sucked by the rogue" Iain laughed loudly, until the loud growl that erupted from his Alpha stopped him, he knew better than to push it when Gunnar made himself known. "Watch it, choose your words," he growled, his eyes glowing green as Gunnar pressed to the surface. Easy, he gets the message, let's not start a fight with our Beta. Oliver cautioned his wolf. I'm just making sure. For a beta, his insolence is out of control. Give it time. He's getting used to his place as Beta. Once he's sworn into the pack, I'm sure he'll be better. Oliver turned and looked at Freya. She was right where he left her, her breathing slow and steady. "Good night then?" Calen asked as he smirked, Oliver knew they were both making assumptions about last night, Freya was in his bed wearing his shirt, and he was standing in nothing but a pair of boxers. He felt the overwhelming urge to make it clear that nothing happened, not because she was a rogue, but because he didn't want anyone to think that she was that type of girl. Lots of Omegas had a reputation among the ranked members for being promiscuous. Hell, he had spent the night with a few of them, but Freya wasn't one of them, and he didn't want to be the one to start that rumour. For some reason, her reputation was something he wanted to protect. "Nothing happened. She had too much to drink, I couldn't remember which room was hers, so I put her to bed in mine." He kept his tone deliberately bland, and he watched as his Beta studied his face for any trace that he might be lying. Perhaps his wolf was right; he wasn't getting the message. "Do you want me to go to the kitchen and pick up any food for you?" Calen came through the mindlink. "Please, just whatever there is, pastries, sandwiches, anything really, make sure there's enough for two. And speak to Luna Kate, see if she could rustle up some female clothes for Freya to borrow." Calen nodded slightly to acknowledge his request without any hesitation. He should be our Beta. Gunnar moaned in reference to Calen. I know. But we're stuck with the one we've got. Maybe it's time we broke this stupid deal. Gunnar growled, we should grow a pair of Alpha balls and tell them we're done. My Alpha balls are just fine, and you know why we can't. "Now if you would excuse me, I'm sure you both have things to be getting on with" Oliver raised his eyebrows, almost daring his Beta to object, but Iain didn't take the challenge. He shrugged his shoulders and turned without a word, Calen went after him silently. Relief flooded him. He didn't want a showdown, not right not. He would deal with Iain later. Right now, he wanted to get back into bed with Freya. She wasn't his mate. He knew that, but he couldn't deny the connection he felt to her. Last night, she kissed him and made him feel like nobody had ever done. She seemed to be able to see right inside of him, and she wasn't afraid of him or trying to impress him like most other she wolves. The strange scent alerted Freya right away that she wasn't in her own bed. She heard the voices and had a good idea who was talking, but didn't dare to open her eyes yet. Images of kissing Oliver flooded her mind. Stop that! She hissed at Hera. Oh, pleaassseee, don't pretend you didn't enjoy that as much as I did. Her wolf smirked. You could have at least got us a bit more action instead of getting drunk and falling asleep. Relief washed through her as she recalled more of the evening and the fact that she hadn't actually had s*x with him. She brushed her nose into the pillow and inhaled deeply. It smelled like him, and immediately, her heart began to race. This was unexpected. She blamed last night on the alcohol but as her pulse increased just at his scent, and the dawning realisation set in that perhaps she did like him and this wasn't good news. She didn't want a mate, and besides, even if she did, he was never going to be her mate. He was someone else's fated mate he just hadn't met her yet. He wanted a fated mate and even if he didn't, she was an Omega and he an Alpha, romance between the two didn't happen, or at least they didn't last, not unless they were fated. She couldn't think of a single time she had heard of an Alpha taking an Omega as their chosen mate. The sound of someone clearing their throat interrupted her thoughts, and she sat up quickly. s**t. Was he about to kick her out of his bed and his room, she wondered? She realised she wasn't wearing her dress anymore and began to look around the room in panic, she was sure he was about to make her do the walk of shame back to her room in the dress from last night. He sensed the panic radiating from her and felt the overwhelming need to try to soothe it. "Did you sleep well?" He asked softly. As he inhaled a breath, she turned to meet him. He had to suppress his smile as he saw her eyes widen. Freya took in every exposed inch of him. The muscles under the tanned skin, the tattoos stretched across him. The way his hair was messy and fell slightly in front of his eyes and the bulge right at the front of his boxers. You're drooling again! Hera laughed hysterically. Shut up! I am not! She carefully wiped her mouth just to be sure, much to Hera's amusement. It's cool, I'm drooling too, who wouldn't drool over that body! Let's touch it! No! Oh come on! I want to touch it, just a little bit, don't spoil my fun. I bet he would be fun! And hard, I bet he would be so hard we… Stop! She felt the heat creep into her cheeks, and her mouth dried as she struggled to form any coherent thought, let alone string a sentence together. And her stupid wolf wasn't helping matters. "I….I…" she swallowed hard and looked down at her palms, which suddenly felt damp. In fact, it felt like the whole room had suddenly become stiflingly hot. Just kiss her again! Gunnar demanded impatiently. He couldn't stand the tension that was building in the room, and neither could Oliver if he was honest. I want her, but not like this. We need to be patient. Oliver replied as he felt his wolf's frustration rose. He absolutely wasn't a patient wolf, and Oliver doubted he was about to start becoming one now. "Calen's going to borrow some clothes from Luna Kate for you. I figured you didn't want to walk around in the dress from last night." Oliver's words cut through the tension like a knife, letting air fill both of their lungs. "Thank you, and um, thank you for last night, I…er hope I didn't embarrass myself." He smiled as he remembered her taste, and he immediately wanted more. "You didn't. I was hoping I could take you somewhere today? There's something I wanted to show you." He took a step forward before sitting down on the bed's edge. He definitely likes us too! Let's just kiss him again! I'll let him take me wherever he wants. Tell him we'll go if he's going to be topless or maybe he's going to take us to bed? Hera persisted. Hera! Why are you suddenly so horny! And in case you haven't noticed, we're on his bed, and he's tried nothing. Oh, pleaassseee! Save your faux outrage, I feel what you're feeling, and I know we are wet!!!! He can probably smell it! He knows what he's doing to us! Though by the fact his shorts have just tightened, I'm pretty sure he likes it. Let's pop a button and see what he does or oh, I know! pretend to drop something and turn around when bending down to get it! Hera urged. Goddess have mercy on me! She cried at her wolf. She showed you mercy by giving you an awesome wolf! Oliver pursed his lips waiting for her answer as he tried to ignore how good she looked in his shirt, and the fact that it was unbuttoned enough to expose just enough of her breasts to send his imagination wild. "Sure, where do you want to go? I've not really explored the packlands. I'm more of a lone wolf." She answered finally. She was trying not to sound so keen. Playing it cool was going to have to be the tactic she deployed, so long as she could keep her horny wolf under control. "I was thinking I could take you to my pack, to Silver Springs, I've got a few things to sort out there." He replied as he pushed his fingers through his hair. Why did he feel nervous, he wondered? "Can I shower first?" Freya asked. Her mind was filled with so many questions about why he wanted her to see his pack, but those could wait. "You can even have a bath if you want?" "You have a bath?" She asked excitedly, and Oliver liked the way her eyes sparkled at that new piece of information. He knew the non-ranked rooms were basic, but this was the first time he really thought about the inequality of it. No wonder the Omegas resented ranked members sometimes. "Yeah," he laughed, "I'll run you one. You can soak until you're all wrinkled like a prune, I'll stay out here, of course." Oliver turned on the hot water and poured in some expensive smelling liquid that his aunt had given him to create bubbles as the water began to fill the tub quickly. We should light some candles. Gunnar suggested enthusiastically. Where do you suppose we're going to magic those up from? You're right. It would be too much. But get her one of the fluffy towels! And how do you suppose we're getting her to Silver Springs? Gunnar sounded almost puppy-like as Oliver picked out the fluffiest towel he could find and handed it to Freya, who was fixed on the water. Oh! Oliver realised the issue his wolf was pointing out. Yeah, oh! We brought the bike back last time, remember? We did, I don't think she scares easily. She'll be fine on it, besides imagine her thighs wrapped about our back and her arms around our waist holding on tight. We're definitely taking the bike! He heard Freya lower herself into the water with a loud sigh, which made him smile before Calen came through on the mindlink. "I've left everything outside your door. I had to reassure Luna Kate that Freya was fine and it's not a hostage situation. She's probably going to want details later." Calen said, and Oliver could hear the smirk in his voice. "Thanks, I'm going to take the bike and Freya to Silver Springs, I've got some changes I want to make to my Alpha ceremony and to show her around the pack. She's in the bath, so I'll wait until you're gone before I come out and get it." "Are you thinking of asking her to join? She's a good warrior, one of the best fighters I've seen, better than most of the men, we could use a wolf like that." Calen said, catching Oliver off guard. He knew he wanted to show her the pack, but was he trying to sell it to her? She was a fine asset to have that was for sure. "She's not really seen any other packs except this. She came from the capital, so I just wanted to demonstrate how everyone was different." Oliver was probably a bit too eager in his tone, "she's a good warrior but, I think I'm going to ask Matteo to assign her to Silver Inc, the company could use some of her smarts." The words came out of his mouth without thinking and he hadn't known what he intended to do until that moment, he wanted her to work for him, a job that would pay well and she could add value to it. "Iain won't like that." Calen laughed. "Iain will have to suck it up and get used to it." Gunnar came through answering before Oliver got the chance. Clearly, our Beta was a touchy subject. "Message received loud and clear Gunnar. I'll work on him to soften him up a bit. I'll leave you to your….erm adventures." Calen said before Oliver put up his block. When he heard the footsteps fall away, he opened the door and brought in the paper bag with neatly folded clothes and a wrapped bundle of food. He made a mental note to thank Luna for this later.
