Lilian pov
“I can’t remember his house being so far up the mountains.”
Nilian is breathing pretty hard for someone that does laps and play football. I let out a hard chuckle when I see him bend over grab his knees and take another deep breath before wiping the sweat from his face.
“Haha, at least I could run without falling over my feet.” He shrugs and walks up to Greybeard's front door.
“I don’t trip, I elegantly fall. Ok.” He looks at me with one of does stupid faces.
Taking the key from my pocket I open the large black metal doors letting us inside. Nilian stands looking at me all confused.
“He trust me.” I place the key back into my pocket and make my way to the living room where all the books are already laid out.
“You and greybeared seem to have a lot in common.” Nilian says.
“Huh?”
“You both seem to love nature.”
“Who doesn’t?” I reply
“His home is huge, what did greybeared do for a living before moving here.”
“I think he was an Alpha a long time ago and a painter that’s before his pack got demolished by a witch or something.”
“That can’t be right.. the books of the Alphas don’nt tell such things.”
“Well I don’t know, but he inherited money he moved around and that’s how he is living now.”
We both sit on the floor around the large coffee table. Nilian looks at the books before them and flips through the pages.
“So where would you be going after you finish?”
“It’s best we focus on what we came here to do.” I replied.
“Why would you want to leave the pack, I mean this is your home.”
“I have no home, and I want to leave to build myself one.”
He flips a couple pages of a book again and then ask another question.
“Is it because of your mom?”
That question pinched a nerve of irritation.
“Why are you going to marry Sarsha, you know you could do better.”
“I don’t want to, but to please my dad and his beta I’m going to.”
I didn’t expect him to answer and I didn’t expect that answer either.
“Your turn to answer my question, is it because of your mom?”
“It’s because of everyone, no one treats me as an equal except for teachers and elders and I guess it’s out of pitty. So I decided why not go out there, start my life and come back when I’m ready to face it all.”
“You're already facing it all.”
“If you call bawling your eyes out before you sleep is facing it all..”
He just turns and looks at me, not the hateful, annoyed looked I would normally get but a lot.
“Anyway, let's finish up here so I could get home before season 8 of my fav show starts.”
“No way are you going to watch the hunting games.” He asked.
“Yeah.”
“Cool, cool.”
We finally started studying and after about four hours we were finished and heading home, the mountains at night is really dark I have to remember to tell Mr. Greybeard to put some lights.
While walking back towards his car, I kept getting this feeling that I’m forgetting something important. Something that I really shouldn’t.
“Hey.”
“What’s the time?” I ask cutting him off from what he was about to say.
“It’s now 9.” He locks his phone and pushes it back in his pocket, the little click from the lock button jogs my memory.
“Ohh shit.”
Just as he was about to ask what’s wrong I could hear the vines from the trees moving. Then it came back to me. As extra protection from what ever greybeared is hiding from, he placed a spell of poison on the veins.
Once it wrapes around your legs the poisons seeds dig into your feet and well…
“What’s wrong?”
A whipping song comes from behind us causing us both to stop, without hesitation and not wanting to be responsible for the Alpha getting poisoned I grab his hand and run towards his car.
When we get to the car, thankfully without a scratch or inch of poison he stands tall and looks at me again with a questioning look.
“What is Greybeard's problem?”
“I totally forgot about it, I’m so sorry… I shouldn’t have grabbed you like that, I only did it because the vines are poisonous and I don’t want to be responsible for anything happening to you.”
“Do you mean the vines are filled with?”
“Yep.”
“I’m ready to get the hell out of here.”
He unlocks his car and we both get in, as sad as it may sound I myself can’t wait to see home.
What a night.
At home, it was quiet, mom was already asleep and from the looks of it she had a good day. There is actually food on the table and an apology letter next to it.
It’s something so common now that I don’t fall for it, maybe one day when I have kids I would be a better mother.
Maybe one day I’ll be a better person and maybe one day I could find it in my heart to forgive her.
But that day isn’t today, who knows when it would be. I pick up the plate of food and dump it in the trash taking out the bag instantly.
I have my resins fir not eating from her anymore or accepting help. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
