Chapter 2 - Kayden

"Moore Pack! My office, now! You've got a new assignment!" Our commander calls from down the hall. Leon groans at his desk behind mine. We literally just finished the report on the last assignment the commander gave us, and he's already got something new for us. Just when I was thinking maybe we could take a vacation. My parents warned us when we decided we wanted to go into law enforcement that we would never get a break, and they were, as usual, right. I run my fingers through my auburn hair before I chug down the last of my coffee. Zack's already standing beside my chair and I have to look up at him, which he knows irritates me. I'm the pack lead, but my best friends and packmates take every opportunity to rub it in my face that I'm the shortest of our bunch. At least I've been told my eyes are the prettiest shade of green ever seen so I have that over them. Zack, like I said, it taller than my 6'2" at about 6'6". Leon is 6'5". I have lean muscled and freckles across my nose. Zack is the dorky one of the group with his shaggy blonde hair, brown eyes and ridiculously large glasses. Leon is the muscle. He's got a lot of bulk in his frame from countless hours in the gym, dark brown hair he keeps pulled up in a man bun unless we're home relaxing, and honey brown eyes. We've been best friends since childhood and as soon as we turned 18 we formed our own pack. We leave our desks and head down to the commander's office. The door is open for us when we get there, so we don't bother knocking and just file in. I'm in front as pack lead, Zack is behind me, and Leon is bringing up the rear, so he closes the door behind us. "You called for us, Sir?" I ask once we're all standing in front of the commander's desk. "Yeah. You boys remember that trafficking ring we caught wind of a few months ago? The one that, as soon as we started investigating, fell off of the map?" he asks, not even looking at us but instead looking at the files on his desk. "Yessir, you told us to be on standby while waiting for more information to come in. But we haven't heard of any new leads?" Zack asks. "One just came in, gentleman. There's a new fight club in town. Usually we don't crack down on the fighting circuit because it's away for Alphas to get their innate aggression out. But we send informants out to all of them, as I'm sure you know. We heard back today that this new one is offering omegas as potential prizes for champions. It's only a rumor at this point, nothing concrete to go off of, but it's enough for me to send you boys in there." Leon has perked up now. "Understood, Sir. Are we to go undercover and infiltrate or just gather information for now?" "At this stage, we just need more information. Our guy got me this flyer. It looks like they're having a pretty big event this Saturday. Just go and observe for now, but report back what you find. And if you guys can find anyone to sweet talk some more information out of, that wouldn't hurt too." The commander chuckles as he hands us the flyer. We make our way back to our desks before pulling up the address on the flyer. Seems like it's in an old warehouse in Downtown Phoenix. Things like this are usually in places like that, but they're also usually in more remote areas. This must be a big event or something for it to be in the city. "Hey guys, why don't we go and check the place out? See what kind of surveillance we can get on it for the night of the fight?" I ask my pack as I hand them the flyer to look at. "Sure thing, man. Are you thinking about some cameras and bugs for the building while we can go in as spectators?" Zack asks. He's the tech guy in our group so he's going to be in charge of all the gear we'll need. "Yeah man, lets try to get eyes on everything we can while we're there. We'll have a bigger chance of seeing the guys running this, especially if we get cameras in there before the event." I nod at him. Leon grabs our car keys off of his desk and starts heading to the door, whistling a tune only he knows. Like I said, he's the muscle so he won't have much to do until it's time for action instead of recon. "Well let's go then, I don't want to be out too late, I'm starving." Leon calls over his shoulder. Zack and I follow him out, already planning to pick up lunch on our way. ~ It only takes us twenty minutes to get to the are the warehouse is in from the precinct, so we decide to park down the street where there are some food trucks and grab some lunch. We walk the rest of the way to the warehouse, tacos and burritos in hand. The warehouse is nondescript and appears completely abandoned. It doesn't take Zack long to pick on of the locks to let us inside so we can scope the place out. We enter through the back and move silently, just in case someone else is actually in here. It looks like we entered some near a makeshift locker room that's empty right now. We find an office down the hall and spend some time going through it to see if we can find anything important. But of course there isn't. That would make this too easy. All we're able to find is a roster for what looks like the first round of a tournament, but it's only partway filled out. Next we make our way the the main room, where a large ring has been set up in the center and a bar is off to the right of the room but that's it here. We spend about thirty minutes looking around for any hidden rooms or anything, but this place is pretty bare bones. We head back out the same door we came in, and after Zack locks the door, we walk back to our car. We don't talk about the warehouse until we're well on our way back to the precinct. Leon blows a raspberry in the backseat, breaking the silence before actually speaking. "Well, that was a bust guys. What do we do now?" Zack chuckles from the passenger seat, "I would hardly call that a bust. If we want to set cameras at every entrance, in that hallway, and one or two in the main event, then it went very well for me. I know exactly how many cameras we need and where we should place them for them to not be noticed." "Sweet man!" I say. "When do you think we should come back and install it all?" I always defer all tech decisions to Zack, I'll end up messing things up if I try to take the lead on this. "I was thinking we should go back to the precinct today, report what we found even though it was nothing, then request the gear. It should take a day or two to get all of it put together, plus a team made for surveillance while we go in on Saturday, but we should be good to come back on Thursday night to install it all. Hopefully, that way we can catch some of the set-up for the event too. I also think we should have cameras and mics on us when we go in." "Sounds good man. Let's get on it." I press a little harder on the gas so we can get to the precinct faster. I want to get this job done as soon as possible so that we can take a little pack vacation and just chill. We have a general plan now. Hopefully, we can get something this weekend to build on so that this case doesn't drag on too long.
