Over dinner, Galen asked Michael how his visit with Jessie had gone.
“It was fun! After we went to the store and had our hot chocolate, she showed me how to teach Kipper to lay down. She said he’s a smart puppy and I should be able to teach him lots. Want to see?”
“Maybe after we finish eating,” Galen replied with a smile, knowing his son would otherwise abandon his plate to show off Kipper’s new trick. And right now, he wanted to get to the bottom of the comments he’d heard earlier. “You know son, I heard a few people talking about your trip to town with Jessie.”
“Oh?” Michael’s eyes dropped to his plate and he began taking bites in rapid succession, which only confirmed Galen’s instincts that his son was hiding something.
