Chapter Six Lily's POV Fractured Illusions I freeze yet again. My eyes open wide as I think through the words that spill fast from Andre’s lips. "Wait, what? It was you?” The smirk on his face as his eyes reached into my soul as though there were a deeper attraction coming to life in that same moment. I take my eyes off him and force myself to hold still as his scent fills me even more. More like an intoxication. He grabs my hand and checks it. His head tilts to the side as he looks at my wrist like he expected to see something on it. “Why don't you have the bracelet on?” I am too stunned to even say a word. I snap my hands free of his. “Why did you send me a gift for my birthday? I didn't need any of that from you.” Deep within, my feelings were different from the words that trooped out from my mouth. Andre's lips parted slightly and then slapped shut. It was an intentional withdrawal, and I wonder what he wanted to say because he seems to be having a lot of fun in his mind with the smirk that remained on his face. “You should have it on.” He finally says firmly before walking away from me. “Wai…” I couldn't complete my words before I realized he was already far away from me. I stay still in that same spot, unable to shrug off all that Andre had said. “It makes no sense to me why Phil will go to the Bloodfang on his own accord.” I thought out loud. “I'm really missing a lot.” I hurry back to my class. My eyes roam around the room as if I were seemingly unaware of many things happening as I walk to my seat. Irina's eyes met mine, and she gave me a long gaze that I could read as a worry expression that she has almost all the time I'm in my head. Barely focusing on what we were being taught, I roughly pick up my bag from the seat, aiming for the door after the bell rings loudly. “Why are you in a hurry?” Irina grabs me by my arm, pulling me back as I almost leave the door. “I just need to get many things out of my head.” She rolls her eyes and shakes her head. Her lips widen into a short smile. “What is it again this time? What did he say?” I know she's talking about Phil. Irina knows it's majorly things that concern Phil that get me into my mood. Irina throws her rucksack bag over her shoulder and places her arm over my shoulder as we walk through the exit hallway. “I really don't know. Andre said…” “Andre?!” Irina stops me. Her eyes open widely in shock of me mentioning his name. I know no one is supposed to find out that I was conversing with their pack. Talk more, Andre. “Lily? What are you getting yourself into?” She snaps. Every bit of her calmness changes into great worry. “You really need to stay away from their pack. You know how dangerous they are. And you…” “I know," I cut in. “I just needed clarification.” “What kind of clarification do you need from a person you're supposed to be very far from? Or is there something you're not telling me?” “Of course not," I fidget. My hands tighten, and I can feel my heart beating faster. I couldn't explain that the great enemy is my mate. I hope it was a lie. "Why aren't you saying anything?” Irina snaps me out of my deep thought. “Stop! You're not making things better.” I yell and walk towards my bike. I throw my crossbag to the back side of my waist before getting on my bike. I didn't have my helmet on because I had lost it the night I went to the Bloodfang. While struggling to get my bike started, I watch Phil walk gently out to the park. Our eyes meet, and he takes his eyes off me immediately like I disgust him. I really couldn't understand why, and worse, my heart keeps filling with so much guilt every time I set eyes on him. I start my engine and zoom out of school. *** “Who have you been talking to all this while?” I push the door to the living room open, and I'm met with my dad, standing in his tall, demeaning frame, glaring at me. I immediately avoid eye contact with him. Ensuring I get my shoes off to change into my indoor furry slippers. “I didn't know you cared to listen to what I have to say now.” I mean, I had every right to be mad at him for not trying to make my day as wholesome as it could be and treating me like my feelings were not so important on a day like my birthday. “Do you even know what you're doing, lurking around in Bloodfang? Have you really become so unreasonable?” I turn to look at him in the eyes. “You weren't going to help me get him. I couldn't just sit and watch things get worse," I snarled. It was as though I had forgotten that I was speaking with my dad, who really hates being confronted by anyone. “That's enough, Lily!” Irina cuts in sharply, walking towards my dad. She seems like she already picked a side. I couldn't wrap my head around why she was trying to shut me down. Something feels really odd about the way she walks over to my dad without fear, trying to calm his nerves. My eyes follow her every move and gesture towards my dad. “Irina!” I yell, as watching her begin to irritate me. “Wait…” I pause. Irina’s hands were closer to my dad than I had ever even had a chance to. “I don't get what's going on…” I turn to my dad. “Dad, who told you I went to Bloodfang?”
