ANY OTHER TIME AND Tom would have taken great pleasure towing Hopper behind like a broken kite on a heavy string. But they had no time for games. Fortress City had to be warned. The tall spires of the city appeared in the distance as did the warm glow of the sun rising behind the mountains beyond. He found a small clearing not far from the city gates and lowered Hopper on to the grassy field. The dew covered grass sparkled in the dim light like tiny diamonds as Tom landed beside Hopper. Hopper slipped the makeshift vine rope from around his waist and tossed it aside. He turned to Tom and asked, “Can you head back into the tunnel system and warn the troll council about the renegades?
