Chapter 3 Counterattack

636 Words
The lad was writhing in excruciating pain, far beyond what his delicate frame could bear. His face contorted gradually, yet the girl's fierce and unrestrained murderous intent left him devoid of any shred of hope. He first looked at Ji Siya, and under her somewhat cautionary gaze, redirected his eyes to Rong Yan. The moment his gaze met Rong Yan's eyes, ablaze with a bloodthirsty glimmer, his heart jolted and a searing pain shot through his chest anew. Trembling with fear, he stammered, "It was Ji Siya. She said she disliked Rong Yan, called her arrogant and told me to teach her a lesson..." "You're talking rubbish!" Ji Siya snapped back in rage. Sensing the odd stares from the onlookers, she grew flustered, loath to see her carefully crafted image smeared. "Student Du, you're just making up lies against me because she beat you, right? You confessed to me before and I rejected you, so now you're holding a grudge. You're scared of Rong Yan and spreading false tales, aren't you?!" Her eyes glistened with a tinge of red, her face a picture of feeling aggrieved. "I'm not framing you!" The lad, incensed by her brazen retort, flushed crimson. "It was clearly you who came to me and asked me to teach her a lesson. And now you say I'm blaming you?" Ji Siya then broke into a fit of sobbing, looking as delicate and vulnerable as a dewy flower. Apparently, the crowd was inclined to side with Ji Siya, given her previously sterling reputation at school. Perhaps the lad, spurned in love and now cowed by Rong Yan, had chosen to pin the blame on her. Someone quickly jumped to Ji Siya's defense: "I think Student Du is wrongly accusing Siya. If she asked him to teach Rong Yan a lesson, why did she rush to block the attack for Rong Yan just now?" "Exactly!" chimed in another. "I also suspect he's lying," added a third. Among the throng, everyone was speaking up for Ji Siya. Seeing the tide turn in her favor, she let out a sigh of relief. The lad lying on the ground, witnessing this, grew even more furious, his eyes boring holes into Ji Siya. Especially when those haughty young people sneered and jeered at him, his anger flared up. Clearly, Ji Siya was the main culprit, yet now he seemed like a vengeful fool. From start to finish, Rong Yan watched the drama unfold with icy detachment. It was only when Ji Siya once again pointed the finger at her that she stirred: "Rong Yan, even if you despise everyone, you can't use others to wrong me. After all, I just protected you so bravely!" Rong Yan took a step forward, her powerful aura enveloping her, making Ji Siya's heart flutter with unease. "There should be surveillance cameras on campus, right? Whether Student Du is lying or not, I'm sure a quick look at the footage will clear things up. Shall we go check?" Ji Siya's face drained of color. She'd forgotten this crucial detail. The onlookers, catching sight of her expression, grasped the situation immediately. The lad, hearing this, summoned his courage and got to his feet, glaring at Ji Siya: "We talked on the school playground yesterday afternoon. Check and you'll surely see it. You even gave me a cup of milk tea to thank me!" He recounted the events with gusto, and Ji Siya's complexion grew progressively paler. Rong Yan sneered, "You got him to hit me and then blocked the attack for me. Later, I'd surely thank you, and your image in everyone's eyes would become even more saintly. What a cunning plan." She eyed Ji Siya with biting sarcasm and scorn: "To sacrifice your own well-being for this, I must admit, I'm almost in awe."
