Chapter 5 I Never Joke

701 Words
"Director, what on earth is going on here?" The principal was also seething with anger. The dean of students stammered, "Principal, I'll go and look into it right away!" With that, he scurried off. The principal managed to force out an awkward smile and said to the elegantly dressed man beside him, "Mr. Mo, this incident is truly a lapse on the part of the school. It was an accident." The man remained silent. His features were astonishingly handsome, his bewitching countenance seemingly the most painstaking masterpiece crafted by God. His noble and refined aura was akin to that of a deity, rendering him untouchable, and every gesture he made exuded an air of supremacy, making him seem almost unreachable. His thin lips curved ever so slightly, making it impossible to decipher his emotions. His eyes, deeper than those of ordinary folk, were like bottomless, frigid pools, their depths impenetrable. "Your esteemed institution truly abounds with talent!" The man remarked with a faint, inscrutable smile. "Mr. Mo, you must be jesting," the principal chuckled nervously in response. Damn it! Which thoughtless student was it? "I never jest," the man replied playfully, his smile enigmatic, leaving the meaning of his words open to interpretation. The principal: "..." What was he supposed to say? The dean, who had hurried off, returned promptly. "Principal, we've found out. It was Rong Yan from Class One, Grade Two." The dean added with some concern, "Should we contact the Rong family?" Among the four most powerful clans in the imperial capital – the Mo, Rong, Lu, and Feng families – the Rong and Mo families reigned supreme, and their rivalry was particularly fierce. In recent years, Mo Zhentian and Rong Boyang had been locked in a cutthroat competition, evenly matched. Two years ago, Mo Zhentian, the patriarch of the Mo family, stepped down, and his grandson Mo Xingji took over the company. In just two short years, under his leadership, the Mo family had undergone earth-shattering changes. His remarkable business acumen and iron-fisted management had propelled the Mo family to break the decades-long deadlock with the Rong family and ascend to the top of the four clans. However, the Rong family had not slackened their efforts and had continued to vie with the Mo family in the shadows. Indeed, the Rong and Mo families had been at loggerheads. Upon hearing that it was Rong Yan who had fled, the principal's heart skipped a beat. He could ill afford to offend either the Mo or Rong families, especially given their long-standing enmity. Now that the current head of the Mo family, standing right beside him, knew that a member of the Rong family was involved, he feared this matter was about to take a turn for the worse. Mo Xingji's lips curled into a meaningful smile. "My younger brother will enroll tomorrow. I'll have to trouble you to keep an eye on him, Principal." The principal's face immediately lit up with a broad smile. "Mr. Mo, you're too kind. Given your outstanding caliber, your younger brother must surely be an exceptional student as well." Mo Xingji cast a knowing glance at the principal and said with a bemused smile, "Principal, as I said, I never joke." The principal:??? What did he mean? - Rong Yan had just scaled the wall and was about to hail a cab to head to the Rong Group when she realized, upon patting her pockets, that she didn't have a single cent on her. After walking a few steps, a sleek, black Rolls-Royce with impeccably designed lines pulled up beside her. Rong Yan turned her head impassively. The window of the passenger seat rolled down, and a man in a suit smiled and asked, "Miss Rong, where would you like to go? May I offer you a ride?" Rong Yan stared blankly at the man in the suit, then glanced at the rear seat. The tinted glass obscured her view, making it impossible to see who was inside. Yet she knew all too well. After all, the man in the suit before her was the ace assistant of that particular person. In her previous life, she had had numerous dealings with this assistant.
