Chapter 9

ASHINA Something almost happened between us, and he was able to resist the mate bond. He fought it. What took place in the shower was not supposed to happen, but I was drawn to him like a moth to a flame and I don’t like this feeling any more than he does. Yesterday, I saw his dead girlfriend’s photo inside his dresser. I was not snooping— okay, fine. Maybe a little. Foxy was in a mood and wanted to know if the photo was still there or thrown out. Obviously, he hid it like a treasure. Tyr told me his brother fell for a human and said that if his mate arrived, Tre would reject his fated mate and have a chosen Luna instead. I did not pay attention to what Tyr was saying before because I did not think it was my business. Besides, I had other things in mind at the time. Who knew I would end up as Tre’s fated mate while he was my second chance? It’s f*cked up. My mind was going over two hundred miles per hour while I found something to wear. I don’t feel like wearing a dress. “Just wear something comfortable and let’s go for a run,” said Foxy. I agreed with her and, without bothering to comb my wet hair, I settled for a pair of t-shirt and shorts and walked out of the bedroom as fast as I could. I did not even greet the maids and just went out the backdoor. I kept walking until I found the second large tree, then stripped. I shifted, then ran to Goddess knows where. I did not stop until I found a body of water and looked at my reflection. “Talk to me.” “I don’t really want to,” I said to Foxy. “As you can see, we are the only ones here, and it’s not like you can talk to Tyr about it. It would be weird and gross.” “Shut up.” “Tsk. I will shut up after you talk to me.” I sulked at the corner even more. “He’s got some self-control, no? It’s annoying but admirable at the same time.” “Admirable?” I frowned at what she said. “You gave him a list and he followed it. I mean, sort of.” She chuckled and said, “You have to admit it got damn pretty hot back in the shower. He stopped because of your list.” “Wrong. He stopped because he didn’t want us. Tre was still in love with his girlfriend.” “Jessie?” “I thought it was Sherry or Cherry? Why didn’t you correct me before?” “Was I supposed to? The girl is gone. She’s dead. At least that’s what I remember from Tyr. She’s irrelevant now. You’re Tre’s mate.” Even that didn’t make me feel better. It’s hard to compete with someone still living, worse with a memory. “You’re overthinking, Ash.” “I’m not. In fact, I don’t want to think about it anymore. I’m going to ask Tre to sleep on the couch tonight, moving forward.” “He won’t agree to that.” “You mean, Finn won’t.” "I don't agree with this either. I like being close to my mate, Ash." "That's too bad, because I don't want to be in the same bed as him." Then something crossed my mind that made me want to vomit. "Oh, God! He might be thinking of her ex while—" "No! Don't think like that!" Now Foxy was even madder. "I didn't feel that and your jealousy and insecurity were getting the best of you. Let's just go back to the house and forget this conversation. What's happening to you? You used to be fun and confident, and now you're just– It's like I don't even know you and we're supposed to be one." "That's what happens when someone breaks you... shreds your heart into pieces... betrays you. Have you forgotten what Tyr did to us?" "WHO CARES! THE MOON GODDESS GAVE YOU TRE ON THE SAME NIGHT YOU REJECTED HIS BROTHER! If you can't get past that, then I don't want to talk to you anymore." And just like that, she went silent. I tried talking to her, but I didn't hear anything. It's a good thing she let me return to the tree where my clothes were. Otherwise, I would be walking back to the house butt naked. "Are you still mad?" I asked Foxy when the house came into view and I saw Tre waiting in the front. He was all dressed and ready to go. Foxy ignored me. I didn't even hear her whimper. As I got closer to Tre, I saw his eyes were dark, and I knew Finn was there. I ignored him, and he wasn't happy that Foxy was on strike. "You should change. We are already late for your appointment." "What appointment?" I asked without looking back. I continued walking towards the bedroom where I could take a quick shower and change into my pajamas. "For your dress. You need a dress for the party." "Can't you just pick whatever you want and give them my size? I'm a size four. I'll get the matching shoes later when I'm in the mood." Tre stopped walking, but I continued on. I opened the door to his bedroom and did what I planned. I was in my pajamas when I came out fifteen minutes later and headed to the kitchen. Tre was nowhere in sight, but his brother was there munching on an apple. "Fighting already?" He asked nonchalantly. I didn't answer him. Instead, I took a cold bottled water from the fridge and ignored him. While I was there, I took some crackers as well and started walking back to the bedroom. I should move my things to the guest room before Tre comes back. I don't think anyone would ask anyway why I moved out of his bedroom, as Luna and Alpha sometimes have their separate rooms. "You can talk to me, Ash." "I don't want to." He sighed and, in a flash, Tyr was beside me in the hallway. He didn't touch me. He just stood there and waited for me to talk. "Can you help me move my things to the guest room?" I asked him. His brows furrowed. "It's okay if you don't want to. I'll do it anyway." "Tre is not going to like that. You shouldn't do that." "I don't care. Jessica's picture can keep him company." I smirked at him and walked away, leaving him surprised. I heard him laughing after, and I felt like smacking his head with my bottled water. "Fine. I'll help you, but only because this will help both of you."
