Chapter 4

ASHINA "You're quiet." Tre didn't ask but stated the obvious. There are some things happening in front of me that don't make sense. Tyr rejected me and whoever is my second mate is none of his business. I didn't know it was going to be Tre either, but it is what it is. "If you're thinking the Moon Goddess would pair you up with him again after rejecting me, think again." Tre snorted, and I couldn't help but give him an annoyed look. I don't remember him being like that. He barely said anything to me before, but now— he's like a totally different person. Is the mate bond making him act like this? I don't think so. "Oh please!" I rolled my eyes. "I rejected him first, not the other way around. I wouldn't chase him even if he's the last man on this planet." Tre didn't say anything. "He knew I was his mate, didn't he?" "I don't know." "Of course you do. You're just covering for him. That's what brothers do. But you know, I'm your fated mate, so you shouldn't be lying to me." “Can we not talk about him? Today is our first day of being mates. What do you want to do?” I was expecting Foxy to say something but she was quiet. I can feel that she’s still upset with Tre. “Let’s have breakfast. My treat.” I thought maybe it is best if I go straight home, but at the same time, I want to spend time with him. “Okay. But you will drive me home after. Do we have a deal?” Tre nodded but he doesn’t look enthusiastic. “I’d be happy if you can pack a few things and get back to my place.” “I don’t think it’s a good idea considering your brother lives there.” The drive to the Pancake House was not too bad if only Tre didn’t stay so quiet. Once we got inside, we ordered and food was served shortly. “Would you rather I kick my brother out?” “Of course not. It’s his house too. Don’t be ridiculous.” I took a sip of my apple juice and continued eating. “I don’t think he believed us this morning.” “I don’t care if he does or not. If he wants, he can ask the Moon Goddess himself. However, we need to start spending time with each other or our plan is not going to work.” “You should not worry yourself about your grandma. I can handle her.” He raised a brow. “I’d like to see you have a conversation with her. She is a terror.” “Is that your way of encouraging me to not reject you? Because you’re failing miserably.” I rolled my eyes at him. “I am telling the truth. Wait until you meet her and tell me I was lying. You really need to be comfortable with me,” “Fine. You win..” *** When we reached my home, I looked for my parents but they weren’t around. The maid told me that they went out of town and won’t be back for another three days. I tried to call them but I couldn’t get a hold of them either. I will try them again later once I’m Tre’s place. I originally planned to pack one suitcase but when I could not decide how many shoes or dresses to bring, I packed two instead so I can have more choices. “Are you staying at my place permanently?” Tre helped me carry the suitcases but his eyes remained on my face. “Silly. While I was packing, I thought about ways how we can convince your grandma even before her arrival. We have to make appearances in public. Take me to lunch. Dinner. Maybe a little bit of shopping or the arcade. And maybe—“ “Arcade?” Tre looked dumbfounded. “You’re no longer twelve.” “Have you ever been to one?” He shook his head. “How about the amusement park?” “I went there once.” “Once? Which ride did pick?” He could not answer me. “You went and never—“ I can’t believe he never did the rides. What did he do there? Stare at it?? “I will take you on an out of town trips.” “No.” I shook my head. “You will do the rides with me AND play in video games with me. That’s what I want to do.” “We have video games at home. There is no need to go to the arcade.” If he thinks he will win this argument, he better think again. “Nope. Agree to it or I won’t go back with you.” His eyes glinted and I knew Finn was surfacing while Tre was trying to push him back. “Or I can just carry you and be done with it.” I am pretty sure that’s Finn talking. “Try and I will reject you.” “I will not accept it.” He turned his back from me, with my suitcases on each hand. He started to walk away from me. “You’re impossible!” I crossed my arms and stood my ground. “That’s not news to me. I hear that all the time.” He laughed and went out the door. I saw him putting the suitcases in the trunk from where I stand. I remember all those times Tyr and I played and Tre was busy with his books. I can’t believe he missed all the fun growing up. I thought he would at least have some memories. Now I have the sense of responsibility towards him and my goal is for him is to loosen up and make happy memories. “Are you ready to go?” He walked back in the house and before I could answer, he carried me like a sack of potatoes. He didn’t let me go until I was inside the car.
