Idara I looked away from him, then sighed deeply, bracing myself before telling the truth. “Marilyn was my friend,” I said, finally meeting his eyes, “and she’s the reason I left where I used to live.” He raised a brow. “And why is that?” he asked, clearly interested. I shrugged, knowing I had to choose my words carefully. “I told people she had a secret child because she provoked me,” I said quietly. “I did it in a way that ruined her upcoming wedding.” I paused, then let it out fully.
