Chapter NineAlan had almost reached the trees and was beginning to believe he and his sergeant were on a wild goose chase when he suddenly saw a tiny shred of material lying in front of him. It was either navy blue or black. It was wet, which made it difficult to tell either way. He had been extremely lucky to spot it lying on a patch of dark leaves.
