Chapter 4-Rules?

1559 Words
Tracey Very early on Saturday morning, Sharon and I were already dressed and waiting for the car that would be taking us to our new apartment. We had been duly informed by the HR team that I will not be needing anything aside from my clothes and a few of my essentials. We were super excited while looking forward to our new life, I have even started browsing how to be an effective assistant, so as not to mess up this opportunity. The horn blast from the car told us that the driver has come, and we came out happy to see the beautiful sparkling black car waiting outside our soon-to-be ex-home. We exchanged pleasantries with the driver who helped us to load our boxes into the car. After which we entered the car and drove off. It took about one hour of driving before the car pulled into a very large property. At first glance, one can mistake it for a resort center due to the large space and so many sight attractions that keep your mouth hanging. The compound was decorated with beautiful colorful flowers, sculptures, Fountains, and luxurious cars. It was nothing short of a paradise. Sharon kept giggling at the view before us which looked too good to be real. I couldn't believe that I was going to live here, because if it were a hotel, one would spend thousands of dollars to spend a night here. The car soon stopped in front of a huge mansion that was painted all white, the driver came down and we did the same while looking at the astonishing building in utter admiration. Some persons that were dressed in housekeeper clothes, like the ones you see in Hollywood films, came out to assist us in taking our lodges. They were a few men in black suits walking around the property watching everything that was going on. We soon entered the mansion and were even wowed more by what we saw. The interior of the mansion was beautiful and everything seem to be neatly placed, from the furniture to the artworks and a giant chandelier that gave just the perfect look to the entire scenery. It is almost impossible to believe that places like this exist, especially if the only place you have ever seen them is on tv. We were led to the third floor and showed a room where we would be staying. The room was a large room with a massive bed, a large dressing mirror, and a massive wardrobe. We excitedly looked at the room to find a beautiful restroom equipped with a heater and jacuzzi. It looked and felt every inch like a perfect dream home for a vacation, It's almost impossible to think that people live here every day of their lives. **** After about two hours of settling in, a maid came to tell me that my presence was needed. I followed her to find my prince charming tapping away on his phone by the poolside. Oh please, not my prince charming, he is cute though and I wouldn't mind being his princess. But, he lives here? How the f**k am I supposed to concentrate on my working with him when his mere presence destabilizes me mentally. Getting to see him every day would completely render me useless. I have not been able to get him off my mind since the first time I met him.No matter how much I have tried cautioning myself that he is way up my league and that he is that one Apple that I can't have, I still can't help but think of him every second of the day. Did I mention he was putting on a short and a shirt that he left unbuttoned while seated at a poolside? A bottle of very expensive wine and two glasses were by his side, and from the look of things, he seem to be expecting someone, or am I the one he is expecting? “Stop staring and sit down,” he said harshly to me after some time, pointing to the vacant chair. “Good Day Mr. Hester,” I said before taking the seat he offered. I noticed he didn't reply, as he keep himself busy with whatever it was he was doing on his phone. I tried looking everywhere else but him, despite seating close to the most beautiful pool I have ever seen, I couldn't help but stare at him. I was beginning to hate myself for not being able to control myself around him. “I called you here to tell you what I expect from you as my assistant,” he said, not bothering to lift his face from his phone. 1. First and foremost, you must address me as sir at all times. 2. You are not to be seen with another guy aside from me, since I'm going to be your boss and you live in my house, it's only normal that I have your undivided attention at all times. 3. You are not permitted to come to my room at any given time. 4. You must respect all the family members of this house, which most importantly is my mum, my sister, and my girlfriend. 5. When I call you, you must make yourself available, I don't care where you are or what you are doing. 6. Whatever I do outside the house or office stays between us, I don't want my business to be the topic of discussion between you and your friend. 7. Lastly and most importantly, You are not to eat anything at all, anytime we are out for a meeting, no matter how long we stay out there. If you will agree with me, you are currently too fat and shapeless and that I am only setting this particular rule for your good. Failure to comply with these rules could get your fat ass fired, is that understood?” He questioned in a very dark voice. “Yes sir,” I answered I said with my head bowed in shame. I didn't understand why I felt so much hurt from his words, he wasn't exactly telling me what others haven't said to me in the past. But hearing those words from him, shattered my heart in a way I never imagined it would. “Now go to your room and stay there, I don't want you around the kitchen, I will tell them to bring you food when I feel you need some,” he said sternly. I just nodded my head and walked away quickly before he would see the tears that were clouding my eyes. It would be too embarrassing to let him see me cry. But I don't get it, it appears he can't even stand the sight of me, but why did he hire me. Why is he so rude and uncouth towards me? I soon got inside the apartment and was heading towards my room when I heard Esther's voice calling. I didn't want to stop, I didn't want her to see my tears but won't I be breaking one of his rules? So I stopped and quickly wiped my face before she could get closer to me. “Hi,” I said attempting to brighten up my face by wearing a smile. “Hey, I didn't know you had come, are you alright?” She asked with concern as soon as she saw my sulky eyes. “Yeah, I'm fine, an insect flew into my eyes a while back,” I said attempting to clean off any leftover tears I may have missed. “Oh, so sorry, do you feel better now, or would you have the doctor check it out?” she asked in genuine concern “No, thank you, I'm fine now,” I said to her reassuringly, even though my heart was shredding itself by the minute. “Oh, ok, if you say so. Do you mind us hanging out later tonight, it can get a little lonely here sometimes,” she said in a friendly tone. “Oh, that would have been lovely but I'm sorry I am feeling pretty exhausted,” I said with the hope that she believes my lie. “It's fine, there will always be other time for us to hang out,” she said with a smile before walking off. I sighed out deeply, as I hated the fact that I just lied to her. She seems like a cool person and it would be fun hanging out with her. I would have happily jumped on to her invitation before the insult I just received from her brother, but now, I just want to go to my room and think about my life. I am having thoughts of quitting the job already but seeing how Sharon is super excited to move into a new environment. I can't afford to cut short her happiness, she made lots of sacrifices to ensure that we weren't kicked out of our previous apartment. I feel this is a great way to repay her for all of her kindness and generosity. I am going to try so hard to work and earn his trust and respect. I will adhere strictly to his rules and make sure he never has reason to doubt my competency.
