Dana wondered what had called Maverick away and kept him from reaching out all day. Well, all morning. It was only a little after one, so barely into the afternoon, but she felt like it must be something important or he was just too busy. She could only hope whatever he was doing it wasn’t dangerous.
She spent most of the morning doing household chores and trying to distract herself from waiting for a call, but still found herself checking her phone or looking at the clock every few minutes. When she finished with the housework she sat on the sofa where she’d started the evening before and tried to read but ended up giving up after not quite an hour, when she realized she’d read the same paragraph a half dozen times and still couldn’t remember what she’d read.
