THE CITY IS FULL OF color and movement. Cars, trams and taxis fly past. Fluorescent signs urge customers into nearby restaurants and bars. I watch life race on around me and my chest tightens as a familiar feeling of loneliness sweeps over me. “You okay?” Gerald asks, picking up on my melancholy. “Oh yeah, sure.” “Big sigh.” “Yeah.” Through the window, I spy a couple holding hands. Another couple kiss while waiting for a red light. I flex my fingers. “Are you still writing your secret movie?” I smile, though Gerald won’t see it in the dark. “Yep. Decided on a murder mystery with a female detective.” “No more sci-fi?” His gaze catches mine in the rear-view mirror. “Everyone is doing sci-fi these days. I think I might add a few scares and turn it into a thriller.” “Sounds fun.” Geral
