Helena closed her eyes for a minute, relaxing. She sang along to the radio again, trying to occupy herself. Her mind trailed back to Xander, remembering the pain in his eyes whenever he spoke of his sister's death. She thought of how they turned dark when he was hurt, and her heart sunk.
"I really don't want his life to be ruined again... If it were to happen, he'd be devastated. I really hope that human doesn't cause anymore trouble," she whispered to herself.
Her heart started racing as she started realizing a very important detail. She got out of her bed and ran out of her room. As she opened the door, she started towards the stairs and was getting ready to run down there, but she ran straight into Xander.
"Uhm, I- uh, I'm sorry," she stuttered out.
He grinned at her stuttering.
"It's fine, Helena. I've got the human to cooperate with us," he said as he turned around and motioned for her to follow, walking to the living room.
Lily sat on the couch, looking around. She was surprised a house like this was in the woods.
"Stay here and don't move from this room, human. Helena, come with me into town," he demanded.
He grabbed her arm and quickly walked out the door.
"Look, I know things are going to be awkward for you but, you've gotta kick that feeling. She's working for us now," he mumbled, his words coming out of his mouth quickly.
"No! Xander, we can't leave her! I bit her... Isn't she part of the coven now?" She muttered.
Her face fell upon hearing herself say those words.
"I've ruined her life," she whispered to herself.
She fell against the porch railing and hid her face in her hands. She began trembling, feeling as though she was going to throw up. She closed her eyes and tried imagining being somewhere else.
"What if she runs? What if she KILLS SOMEONE while we are gone, Xander?" She asked, freaking out.
He sighed heavily and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"You need to calm down. You can't turn anyone yet. You haven't left the place as my t****l until you drink my blood. Then, and only then, will you become a true vampire and break away from being a fledgling," he explained in an attempt to calm her down.
"And as for Lily killing anyone, you and I pretty much scared the living hell out of her. She's harmless now, but we will keep an eye on her just to make sure," he stated.
He removed his hands from her and started walking in the direction of the town.
"We need supplies for this and you need to tell me everything you know about this Daniel guy," He told her.
She slowly started following him, falling in step with him, and began thinking everything through.
"He... He is afraid of me, and he doesn't like it. Therefore we don't need much. However, his followers who do his bidding for him are not afraid to die and they WILL kill me if I am not careful," she murmured.
She sighed heavily and looked up, finally coming to a decision.
"First, we hit a library of some sort. I need to read up on a few things. But Xander... I think it's time I tell you just exactly why I fell, if you wish to know," she said.
She looked at him, sincerity in her eyes. He had shared his past with her, and she decided it was time she shared at least a little bit of hers with him.
He nodded his head and started making way to the nearest library.
"When we get home. There's ears and eyes out here," he said as they entered the library.
Once they were at the library, he followed her around as she took the lead to find the books. He saw her grab a few books and return with them.
"Is that all of them that we'll need?" He asked as he saw her nod her head.
They left the library with no trouble, Xander had placed an illusion on the entire place before they went in. They walked into the house to find Lily sleeping on the couch. He walked with Helena to another room that had a desk to place all the books. This room was his study, where he went to read his books or just be alone.
"Alright Helena. Now tell me, how exactly did you fall?" He asked anxiously.
He was happy to finally be learning something about her, something that would help him understand.
She looked at the books, double checking to make sure they're what she needs. She handed the top one to him, a book about protection rituals.
"Whenever I was born, my parents knew something was different. My eyes held a determination, they said. At around 10 or 11, I began healing people. I could see auras, and my parents accepted it. Whenever I was 13, they finally told me I was an angel. I was then sent to protect the Elder Counsel at 14. Daniel trained me himself, and I became the best protector they ever knew. Then I met Allison... Allison and I had no clue we were not suppose to interact with each other, she was the 'enemy'. But I did not know any better. She began training me in magic and spells. She helped me work with elements. I stayed on Earth more often to practice with her, that is why I lived with a foster family. Up until the other day, three days before you found me, it was a secret. When the Elder Counsel found out, Daniel tried to defend me- he was scared of what I would do to them. Whenever they tried taking me to the prison, I lit the Counsel Tower on fire. My parents disowned me, they were ashamed of me. Daniel forced me to fall from grace, and I killed two members of the counsel. I have been on the run from him since. I began permanently living with Liam, hoping that would keep me safe. I trusted him, loved him as though he were my real father. He became the second person I cared about. Then he started abusing me... Daniel despises me because he's afraid. He's been searching for me, and he will find me eventually. He hopes that him keeping Allison prisoner will lure me in. I love her with all of my heart, Xander. She's my soulmate," she explained to him.
Her voice had become sad and hurt as she continued explaining everything.
"They took the only person I cared about, and imprisoned her. She's a demon, but she's the kindest woman I've ever met. I know soulmates are supposed to be lovers, but I found mine in my best friend," she whispered.
She felt warm tears fall from her eyes and wiped them away. Standing up, she looked at Xander and smiled.
"Anyway, we should start reading. You need protection for if any of his followers come here, and you need to protect Lily," she said hurriedly.
He grabbed the book, quickly skimming through it. He looked up when he heard her say that he would be protecting her.
"Oh, that's not my job. That will be your job to protect her. You already know magic. I, however, do not," he said with a smirk.
He, of course, was lying because he did know magic. However, he only knew dark magic. It was something he studied during the time of the Salem Witches. He learned from them and in turn he taught them a few things about vampires.
"It'll be good for you to get rid of this fear you have. So you'll be her guardian at all times," he said as he sat down.
He replayed her story in his head numerous times before coming to a conclusion.
"Xander, we're going to save your friend. Do you know where to begin looking?" He asked.
He looked up to find Helena glared at him, and she was thinking she didn't hear him right.
"Okay, before we even discuss that, let's backtrack- I'm doing WHAT? I am NOT her guardian. Sorry, but being a 'guardian' or 'protector' is not my job anymore. And what fear?! Xander, YOU are the one that captured her. It is YOUR job," she said stubbornly.
She walked over to him and knelt down beside him, resting her arm on his knee while looking up at him.
"As for Allison... I have a hunch, but it's a 50/50 chance," she muttered.
She realized how close she was to him and stood up, awkwardly scratching the back of her head.
"Anyway, it'll take days to plan things out. If she's still alive," she whispered.
He threw his hands up in defeat.
"Alright alright. I'll watch over the damn human," he muttered.
He watched her as she walked over to him, and he raised his eyebrows at how close she got to him.
Thought she didn't like me. Hmm. Let us see for now just how things go.
He saw her back up awkwardly, grinning as she started fidgeting.
"That's still better odds in our favor than none. At least we have a 50/50 possibility to succeed or fail," he replied.
