He heard her yell as she had left, not being too far from the house yet. Realizing he couldn't just leave her in such a foul state of mind, he slammed his fist into a nearby tree and walked back to the house. He arrived just as she was taking flight. Using his enhanced vision, he was able to track her down.
"Got you," he said as he walked towards her sleeping body, and he noticed that she was restless.
She would flinch every once in a while in her sleep, and he realized that she had been through some form of a***e.
"Foolish girl, foolish," he muttered as he lifted her up in his arms.
He carried her bridal style as he walked back to his house. He admired her for a minute, taking in her long black hair, her long eyelashes. He studied her face and mentally commented on her beauty before realizing what he was doing. He shook his head as he entered his house, and walked up to her room. He sighed, placing her down on her bed.
"You want me to kill you? Let's see if that's really true when you awaken," he whispered into her ear as he tucked her into bed.
Xander took a good look at her before leaving her room. He grabbed his sword and buckled it around his waist.
"Now to wait and see what shall happen next."
Helena slowly woke up hours later to sunlight shining through the window, and looked around, realizing she was no longer in the woods. Her heart started beating faster than ever, and she stood up quickly. She started to panic before her head started spinning. She sat back down for a minute. She shook her head and decided she needed water. Trying to be quiet, she slowly walked to the kitchen, checking for him. She sighed in relief when she didn't see him.
"Hopefully he isn't gonna be an a*s today," she muttered.
Realizing her throat was dry and her head was still spinning, she quietly walked over to a few cabinets, searching for and finding the one that held the cups. She filled one with water, and gulped down half of it. A cough escaped her mouth and she was worried she might've alarmed Xander, hoping he didn't hear her. She leaned against the counter and slid down to the floor.
"Why me? Why did he choose me of all people? He couldn't have chosen a guy who would gladly hunt humans? He couldn't have chosen a demon or something? No? Ugh," She muttered to herself.
Xander was in his room, contemplating on what to do with Helena.
"Can I really kill her? She reminds me so much of my little sister," he whispered.
He ran his fingers through his hair. Sighing, he got up from his bed. He left the room as he was feeling parched. He made his way to the kitchen and found Helena on the ground. He overheard her conversation with herself.
"There is a reason why I chose you, Helena," He said as he walked past her to the cupboard.
Hearing his voice startled her. Grabbing a cup and filling it with water, he drank the whole glass in one gulp. He turned to look at her and she still had a startled look on her face.
"Come with me. You wish to know why I chose you of all people? I will show you,” he said.
She slowly looked up at him, hesitating.
He could kill me. in an instant. What if he is taking me somewhere to kill me? Am I ready to die? What if he is gonna make me kill someone?
Her eyes met his, and she held up her hand, asking for his assistance to get up.
"Before you grab my hand, before I go ANYWHERE with you, do I need to write a letter to allow everyone else to know I'm dead? Do I need to make preparations on who is going to feed my goldfish?" she asked, a giggle escaping her mouth.
He gave her a small smirk, chuckling at her little joke.
"There will be no need for that. Now come with me," he said as grabbed her hand, helping her stand up.
He motioned for her to follow him as he went upstairs to the attic. The attic was severely dusty, cobwebs were all over the place.
"Sorry about all this. I haven't been up here in years," He said as he made his way to a chest. He opened the chest up, grabbing a painting from within it.
"This is the reason why I chose you, Helena. You resemble someone I hold dear to me," he said as he handed her the painting.
The painting was a family portrait of his family. His mother and father had their picture painted since they were vampires.
"Now do you understand?" He asked.
She stared at the painting in shock, blinking a few times. She looked at them, all of them beautiful and handsome. She smiled at Xander's smiling face, and then looked at his little sister's. She gasped at how closely she resembled Laura.
"She's gorgeous... All of you are," She murmured.
Her eyes scanned over the painting a few more times before handing it back to him.
"But Laura and myself aren't that much alike," she said hesitantly, trying to shake off the similarities.
She flinched and quickly moved away, realizing his threat about killing her if she ever mentioned her again.
"Uhm... I'm gonna go back downstairs and, uh... I'm gonna get ready for bed," she mumbled.
She quickly found the stairs and went back down, sighing as she reached the bottom.
"He might kill me... He might actually kill me. Then what will I do? I will never be able to see Allison again... I miss her so much," she whispered to herself.
She trudged into her room and fell back on her bed, tears falling.
He stared at the painting for a few more minutes. He put it back into the chest, locking it before he left the attic. He made his way to her room, knocking on the door as he waited for her response. Not a sound.
"Helena, I'm coming in," He said as he opened the door.
"Now do you see why I chose you? You remind me of my little sister. I know you two are nothing alike but you have some resemblance to her. That is why I chose you, you’re- Wait, why are you crying?" He said as he stopped near her bed.
She froze at hearing the concern in his voice.
“It’s nothing. I’m fine,” she murmured.
She wiped the tears away as Xander made a mental note to ask her later.
"Also, I looked into your eyes. You wanted a way out, I gave you that."
He sat down on the foot of her bed, running his hands through his hair.
"Do you know why I despise humans so much?"
She looked at him, then looked down as she shook her head.
"And I don't want to know, either. I'm not spilling my past to you, I'm not going to. You don't have to tell me yours, I don't expect you to. You've shared enough with me today... I don't want you upset," she whispered.
As she spoke, she started shaking. She remembered what happened when she spoke like that to her foster father. She stood up, trembling as she paced around the room. Xander realized that she was still scared of him.
"Uhm, anyway... Shouldn't you be getting to sleep?" She asked.
She caught his eye, then quickly looked away.
He got up from the bed and walked towards her. Placing both of his hands on her shoulders, he stopped her from moving around.
"Look Helena, I know I haven't been the most understanding person around but I've been alone for a long time. You're the first person I've ever turned. Everyone else wasn't worthy of being in our coven. So I killed them with no remorse," he whispered.
As he spoke, he caught her eyes, continuing to stare into them.
"I know you don't want to remember your past. But that is your past, your life is now as a vampire. Relish that thought and let go of those burdens," he murmured softly.
His hands slid down to hers, giving them a tight squeeze. He let go of her and left her room.
"Sleep well, I have a bad feeling about tomorrow," he called out as he closed the door behind him.
She was still tense from him suddenly putting his hand on her shoulders and the chills she got from his hands trailing down her arms. She slowly walked over to her dresser where her clothes were, and changed into some shorts and a tank top. She climbed into bed, drifting to sleep. Then the real fun began.
