Yvonne impatiently stared as the doctor finished checking on Luis and was handing him over, she kissed him passionately as if it would be the last time she would see him. Laurence was standing five inches away, glaring, waiting for when she would try a silly move of trying to escape with the boy and he would really shoot her, with the gun tucked in his pocket, he felt it.
She settled down on a sofa, caressing his beautiful little face, she raised her head up quickly to look at the doctor and Laurence who were keenly watching her.
"Do you mind?" She asked sternly. Laurence stood confused while the doctor was already walking away.
"Best if you leave them alone" He said.
"With the baby?, alone?"
"Feeding!!" She shouted. "I am going to breastfeed him, do you want to be present?"
Laurence grinned embarrassed. She felt like punching his face
Outside the room, he sat impatiently on a chair, what did she know about his pain?, nothing, that boy was his everything, his reason for living, he was more to him than all the money in the world.
Yvonne watched him sound asleep in his crib,he looked nothing like Benjamin, infact he looked more like the block head Laurence, she wondered why she for a split second or more than a second decided to fall in love with the man. Yes, she had met him on a cruise ship going to Singapore from UK, her trip sponsored by a rich family friend; Benjamin was really connected with a lot of people back in Singapore. Well, she wanted to just talk, that was all, but one thing led to another and they got pretty close,he loved her honesty and she loved his sincerity, and as they got to Singapore she stayed in his house, friendship moved into something quite deep and she could say they fell in love, but..... right now, she don't know. She got pregnant and he was so strange about it, couldn't believe he could father a child, he treated her like the Queen of England, well it was short-lived as she one day over heard his plan as he conversed on the phone that he was going to take it and get rid of her, her mind went wild, she let her imagination run and then she ran, it was the only thing she could think to do, she ran and it was the foolish yet wise thing to do.
The plan sounded absurd even to her hearing, something from a dark novel. A marriage, a union, something which wasn't to be was happening. Daniel tried to make it look catchy, like it was the good option but Laurence was keen on it being the last and only way out.
"And what if I don't?"She said stubbornly, her brown eyes wide and assertive.
"Miss Solis" Daniel was gesturing with his hands, trying to convince her. "look at it this way, you need a family, now you have it,a complete extended family at that, everything in all"
"Luis is my family"
"Jordan" Laurence corrected hoarsely. "His name is Jordan" Yvonne didn't look at him, she ignored him as if he wasn't even there.
"I don't need anyone else"
"Yvonne I know you are independent, and strong, I know you have your life all planned out but you've got to let us help you and Luis"
"And your pasts?" Laurence gave a mocking chuckle. "It's too dirty to want to go back to, right?". Daniel had his hands in his face in horror. Now she won't reconsider.
"Okay" She spoke up, Daniel gaped, surprised. "What do I do?"
For the rest of the day, she underwent series of medical tests, brain scans, probably to check if she wasn't really crazy, all sort of blood tests, tests for STDS, genetic tests and all sorts, that made her tired and worn out. Daniel was enthusiastic, she loved him, he was free and down to earth and he brought a woman over to teach her Kitchen etiquettes, taught her how to talk to people but she didn't need them, she wasn't an stupid, and she told them that, she was educated and knew what to say and what ought not to say. Daniel equally loved her, who wouldn't, she was funny and yet serious, she was so childish and innocent and lovely too, he almost forgot he had a girlfriend.
By late afternoon, Daniel announced his departure, he however wanted them to participate in one last job for the last time; the public eye, they would gush over the story, they would want to uplift her yet bring her down, she was drop dead gorgeous and Laurence had been too single for too long, she was really going to have to be strong to face both his family and the world.
He left after they took so many photos to convince the public eye with a story that should stick, They met like normal people, Yvonne is a photographer and they fell in love and got married secretly and boom!!, there is a baby in the picture. It was the perfect story, though Yvonne preferred they didn't lie about her job, but Laurence was bound on getting on her nerves and was disagreeing with everything she said.
Daniel gifted her a camera, she was thrilled, she couldn't wait to show Jordan and wouldn't stop taking pictures of everything in the place.
"Jordan" She cooed. "See what Mom got"
Laurence turned to his watch, the doctor was gone and so was Daniel, and he regretted having to stay here and babysit those two in the other room, his flight was in two days, he couldn't wait to go back to his family with Yvonne and his son, everyone would be so shocked and he would be so happy. But for now he was bored, he needed someone to pick on.
"The camera wasn't given so you could take pictures of this place" He said to her, she turned quickly to him. She was silly too, always falling for his sarcastic remarks, should have just ignored it.
"Maybe you should have come up with something better, photography?,I hate it!"
"Maybe you shouldn't have dropped out of school"
"I didn't really, I went.... back" She was shocked at her lie. "Look who he is telling me of being inadequate, or at least something like that".
Maybe she shouldn't have said that inadequate bit but whatever she meant he misunderstood it to be about his Inability to father a child.
"What did you say?" He croaked. She looked sorry, knowing she had hit a nerve, he was swelling in anger, the tension in the room was burning hot and Jordan was quiet, staring at both his parents, probably wondering why they have refused to agree. Laurence held her hand, she fidgeted and looked even more sorry. "You are a....." he gritted his teeth and bash his fist on the wall instead of her pretty, lovely face. She pouted like a little girl and her face were down, she was childish and proud and wasn't going to apologise, he was proud and arrogant and..... just about everything. But he was helpless because of her stubborn pride. And when he let go of her hand, and in anger, screamed, she started to run, went past the crib and out the room and he didn't know why, he just ran after her.
