BARELY PERCEPTIBLE radiation at 660 nanometers, the red taillight of a totaled sedan, would change the course of human evolution. The car had nosedived and crashed at the bottom of a wet ravine. The soft red glow caught the eye of a passing driver above in the storm, if only for a fraction of a second.
To his right, over the cliff, down the steep grade and into the pines, it was pure chance that LaGrange would notice the death-flicker of the automobile. Sheets of rain fought the van's steering on the slick Sierra Nevada back road, which he didn't much mind or even notice.
His van's speakers called in his own voice, as he ruminated over his latest theory, “Angular momentum of particles upon colliding with dark matter would seem in violation of the Planck’s Laws...”
