Chapter Twenty-Three ~April 24~ Margaret was sitting in the duchess’s private drawing room reading. James knocked and came into the room, carrying a brown paper package. “This just arrived for you, my lady,” he said. Margaret jumped up and nearly clapped she was so excited. “Oh! That’s my costume for the Venetian ball.” James’s face broke into a bright smile. “That is exciting.” He handed over the package. Margaret took it, pulling off the string holding the paper together. A pale pink velvet gown spilled out, followed by her mask and a matching pink tricorn. She couldn’t help but laugh as she held up the dress. It was absolutely covered in white lace. There were rows of it going down the skirt and a wide border of lace at the neck and drooping from the three-quarter length sleeves.
