"We showed her the mating records today," Silas admitted, his voice dropping into something smaller, almost shameful. "We took her to the vault. We showed her that her name was written next to ours before any of us were even born. We explained the biological destiny. We thought... we thought if she saw that she belonged with us, she would see we only want what’s best for her."
Jax stared at Silas like Silas had grown a second head. Then he put his face in his hands and let out a long groan. "Tell me you didn't do that. Please tell me you didn't drag a grieving girl into a dark basement to tell her she doesn't have a choice in who she loves."
"It’s the truth!" Silas argued, his chest heaving. "It’s our law!"
