The drive felt like it was never going to end. As soon as we crossed the city line, the streetlights vanished. Everything outside the windows turned into a thick, heavy blackness. The only thing I could see was the small patch of road the headlights could reach. Alaric didn't say anything. He kept his eyes on the road, but he felt so close in that small car.
