he is fierce

Amelia's P.O.V. (Continued) "Why are you in pain?" my breath hitched, and I looked up immediately when a familiar, throaty, and heavy voice fell on my ears. I blinked dumbly when my dark green eyes met with his silver-grey eyes with black streaks. His eyes were so cold that his question sounded to me like an illusion. I had to crane my neck more to see his face because he was taller than me by approx one foot. I wasn't short. Heck, I had a good height of 5'7" with a killer hourglass figure, but in front of his tall and broad structure, I looked so tiny. His long and thick neck, his broad shoulders covered with the fur of his long overcoat, "Alpha Velan Thorne." I greeted him anxiously, creating a distance between us by taking two steps away from him. The pain everywhere in my body vanished into thin air just like that. "What happened to you?" He asked me again in the same cold tone. I felt embarrassed, but I can't say that I, Amelia Frost, a successful tech engineer in one of the top ten tech companies in the world and also holding the position of one of the top 5 most fierce she-betas in our world, was just rejected by my fated mate because I wasn't favored by my own family. “His pack, The Frostbite Pack, was the second largest and the strongest pack after the royal pack. He was Luther’s uncle, the last-born of Luther’s grandparents. Instead of fighting his nephews for the pack authority, he took over the Frostbite Pack after killing the former alpha of that pack. That was the first time he unleashed his wolf, Fang, to the maximum extent, and from that day onwards, the whole world, even the king, feared him. "Nothing to talk about, Alpha Velan. Still, thanks for asking." I replied politely, pulling the same fake smile on my lips that I always had whenever I talked about coding and computer languages with my teammates. Alpha Velan Thorne narrowed his eyes a little but nodded once before walking away. I kept my breath held while waiting for him to go farther. I breathed out aloud and gasped for the air after he moved to the corner of the corridor. Alpha Velan Thorne still held a strong authority over the whole Thorne family after the retirement of his father twenty years ago. Alpha Edmund Thorne, Velan’s elder brother, and Luther’s father also feared him. I heard that he is still unmated and never let any woman come near to him even though he is in his early thirties, showing a stark contrast to a wolf's nature, as the werewolves have a strong desire of s*x after they cross the age of 16. I started walking again when I heard him calling me from behind. I held my breath and slowly moved in his direction. He was now standing at the farthest end of the corridor. "Aren't you attending your sister's engagement? Where are you going?” he asked me calmly, his voice still distant and aloof. I wanted to deny attending her engagement by making the excuse of having something else to do right now, but it wasn't that easy to lie to him. I am sure that he had already felt my distress and the absence of my wolf. Making any excuse will bring no good to me. “I…. I forgot my phone in my room, Alpha. I…. will be back soon.” I replied to him while stuttering hard. I shut my eyes tightly while smacking my lips in embarrassment when my phone started ringing in my handbag. He didn’t say a word, but I felt him going away. I slumped my shoulders and pouted helplessly while looking around in despair. “Ariel. What should I do now?” I muttered, seeking help from my wolf. “Are you coming or not?” I flinched so hard in fear that I threw my bag away when his voice thundered the whole corridor. “Coming.” I replied in a meek voice and immediately leaned to get my bag from the ground. I took it hastily and opened it while running in his direction. My heart was now thudding hard against my ribcage. I took my phone out, which was still ringing and sucked in a breath when I saw my boss, the head of the department, Julius Holt’s name on the screen. “Mr. Holt.” I greeted him in a low voice after taking the call. “Where are you, Amelia?” he asked me in a hurried voice. “I… I am in the banquet hall of the pack house of my pack, Mr. Holt. It’s my sister’s engagement tonight, remember?” I reminded him of the reason for my leave. He is also a werewolf and that’s why I talked this freely with him. “Great. You need to help me in an urgent matter, Amelia.” He asked me hurriedly but I frowned in confusion. “There is an urgent document that needs our chairman’s signature as soon as possible, but because of some unknown reasons, no one is able to reach him at this moment.” He explained the situation and my confusion deepened. “The chief secretary told me that he is also in the same pack where you are right now. So, please help us and find him or the CEO.” He added to it further and now I was completely annoyed and confused. “But Mr. Holt. I don’t know them. How can I find him here? And will it be appropriate for me to approach them during an occasion like this? Given the fact that I don’t know what relationship they have with the alpha family?” I put my stance in a firm voice. “Hey.” I yelled in a stunned tone when someone suddenly snatched my phone. “Gilbert. It’s me.” I blinked hard, looking at Alpha Velan’s face with a dumbfounded expression. “Alpha Thorne. Bruce has sent you mail that needs your urgent notice.” Mr. Holt stammered hard while replying to Alpha Velan. I collided with him once again when he stopped abruptly. My nose hit his chest again, bringing tears to my eyes. He wrapped his hand around my waist, pulling me towards him when I was about to fall backward because of the collision. “Okay.” Alpha Velan replied and hung up. He looked at me with a cold gaze, sending a chill down my spine. “You don’t know who the chairman and the CEO of your company are?” he asked me coldly, and I just gulped hard in fear, still blinking hard dumbly. He grimaced; his eyes darkened a little. He slowly let go off me, making me stumble a little, but I succeeded in staying on my feet. “Let’s go.” He grumbled coldly and without waiting for me, he started walking forward. I am an intelligent woman. Well, more intelligent than my sister and others of my age or around my age in the pack. Yet, I felt like a fool in front of Alpha Velan. I quickly messaged Mr. Holt, asking him the names of both our chairman and the CEO while walking behind him hurriedly. My nose hurt, but I had no time to dwell on my pain. I had forgotten the rejection pain already. It didn’t even appear anywhere in my mind. My breath hitched when Mr. Holt replied to me with two names. He even doubted my intelligence by asking why I asked him this stupid question. Wow! What an intelligent woman I was. I was working with the Thorne Future Tech and still didn’t know the name of the person who founded the company. I peeked at his back with a guilty expression, feeling embarrassed by how dumb I would have appeared in front of him earlier. “Amelia? Why did you come back?” I flinched harder but rolled my eyes internally when my mother asked me in a loud voice filled with shock and confusion. “This is her sister’s engagement, Stacy. Is she not allowed to attend it just like you never let her attend any other functions in the past?” Alpha Velan asked her coldly, but his statement brought all the worst memories of the past. "It.... it's not like that, Alpha Velan." Mom replied to him while stammering hard in fear. I clenched my grip on both my phone and my bag tightly while looking at her expressionlessly. "Then, how it's like?" he questioned again, making me feel a pang of pain in my chest.
