CHAPTER ONE: Captured by Silverfang

1167 Words
I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat. I tried to move, to run, to scream for help, but my body betrayed me. My knees buckled, exhaustion crashing into me like a tidal wave. He watched as I fell, but instead of hitting the ground, I fell into a warm pair of arms. A growl rumbled in his chest, deep and commanding. He was tense, wary—but something in his grip was... careful. My eyes fought to remain awake when voices erupted from around us. “Alpha, are you okay?” “She’s a spy.” “How’d she get past security?” “She’s Nightclaw, Luca must have sent her.” “Step back.” “We need to eliminate her.” “No, she could have valuable information about Nightclaw.” Their words meshed together as I struggled to pick the darkness, embracing me at bay. “All of you, shut up,” he growled. His voice boomed loudly, filling the forest with an authority I had never known before. Everything stilled–even the wind stopped howling at his command. My eyes drifted open and closed. No, no, no. This couldn’t happen. I grabbed his shirt, my grip tightening. I can’t go back to being a prisoner. I just couldn’t. “Please……help me,” I croaked. “He…” Then everything went black. ***** My eyes fluttered open, a pounding in my head as I noticed the chains binding my wrists. Panic surged through me as my eyes adjusted to the dimly lit room. The unfamiliar scent of an unknown pack thick in the air, filling my lungs and suffocating me. Definitely not Nightclaw. I was screwed…..Again. I had made it out. But at what cost? The door swung open, breaking the eerie silence that had filled the room, interrupting my thoughts of escape. The strong aura from before filled the room as the guy who I had come to know was the Alpha entered the room and closed the door behind him. He stood by the door, his face hidden, but I could feel his calculating gaze burning every inch of my flesh. My body tingled. His piercing gaze pinned me to the spot, holding me captive to his intense gaze. His jaw ticked as his muscles oiled like a predator assessing its prey, clenching and unclenching beneath his t-shirt. “I’m sorry,” the words blurted out of my mouth before I could process what was going on. He stilled for a split second, probably empathizing with me. “Start talking,” his voice was calm, but there was a certain authority to it that had my guard up. “Who are you? Why were you running? Who were you running from?” I swallowed. How I answered would determine whether he was going to let me go alive or whether I would be dead in the next few seconds. My throat felt dry and parched. “Can I have some water before? I promise to answer all your questions.” There was a silence and then, a few seconds later, the door opened and someone handed the Alpha a glass filled with what looked like water. Then it closed, leaving us alone again. He walked over to me carefully until he was standing in front of me. His grey eyes were dark as he held my gaze whilst he brought the glass to my lips, all whilst not saying anything. I gulped down the water, my eyes locked on him the entire time and when I was done, he slowly lowered the glass to his side, his gaze still locked on mine. There was something about him that I couldn’t quite shake off or put my finger on. "I…" My voice cracked. I couldn’t tell him the truth. Not yet, at least not yet. What if he just sent me back to Luca? What then? All my plans would go out the window and Luca would never trust me alone ever again. Crap, I was screwed either way. I needed a way out, fast. "I don’t know," I whispered instead, looking at the floor, afraid that if I looked at him then he would be able to see right through my pathetic lie. "I don’t remember." The Alpha pulled my chin up so that I was looking at him. “Lies.” The word left his lips so smoothly, yet his face was calculating. “I’ll ask you one more time and this time I expect the truth.” His proximity was overwhelming me, overpowering me and making me realise just how small and powerless I was. "You’re hiding something," he murmured, almost to himself. "And I don’t like secrets." Then, after a beat, the door swung open and three well-built men entered the room. "Lock her up. We’ll find out the truth soon enough." He dropped my chin and walked out of the room, leaving me feeling as tiny as humanly possible. Crap, crap, crap. I had gone and ruined my only way out of b*****e. I had escaped one prison only to find myself in another prison. “Wait,” I called out to him. “I’ll tell you everything you want to know, just please don’t leave me here alone.” He paused by the door as the three men tightened the chains around my wrists and ankles. “Leave us,” he waved his hand casually to the men. They bowed down and quickly rushed out of the room. “Talk.” I racked my brain, trying to find something believable to tell him. I had to make sure I gained his trust one way or another. I couldn’t be stuck as a prisoner for the rest of my life. I wanted to touch some grass, breathe in the fresh air or the forests. Find love. Find a job, something to make me feel normal. “I’m from Nightclaw,” I began, swallowing the lump that had formed in my throat. “But no one sent me. I was running away from there and looking to start a new life somewhere else.” He tilted his head slightly, taking me in and everything I was saying. “Go on.” “I didn’t mean to land in your territory. I am very sorry about that.” “Hmm,” he grumbled softly. “How did you get in undetected?” There was no way in hell I was telling him that. That secret would die with me no matter how much torture I went through. “I don’t know,” I looked away from him. “Very well then, have it your way.” The door opened and rushed the three men. They untied me, each holding onto a chain. “Take her to the torture room and torture her,” he back darkly. “Come get me when she is ready to talk.” Then he left swiftly, leaving a ghost of his scent.
