Beneath The Surface

Nicole.. I woke to the feel of Zach’s fingers trailing down my arm, leaving a shiver in their wake. His touch was light, teasing, as if he wasn’t sure whether he wanted to wake me or let me sleep a little longer. When I opened my eyes, he was leaning over me, his face half-hidden by shadows despite the morning light streaming through the window. “You’re awake,” he said softly, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. I stretched, arching my back slightly, knowing his eyes followed the movement. “I am now.” Zach’s gaze lingered a moment too long before he stood, pulling away like he always did—distant, unreadable, like he was holding back a part of himself. It drove me insane. He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he tilted his head slightly. “Get up. I want to take you somewhere.”
