CHAPTER 151 When Nurse Dormer had gone into Judith’s room, after telling Standish to go to bed, the latter had turned towards the stairway which would take him to his own room, and had then changed his mind and gone downstairs for a drink. Standish was an abstemious man by nature, and he did not generally care much for drinks. When he came to Templedean he took to drinking wine with his meals just because the other members of the household did so and he was anxious to conform, but he had no palate for wines.
