Chapter 003

I woke with a bright light shining in my eyes, blinding me for a moment. I sat up, squinting and rubbing my throbbing head with one hand, and gradually the room came into focus. I hear a feint beeping noise and the smell of 409 cleaner hits my nostrils. I was in a hospital bed, IVs and heart monitors attached to my skin. "Luna." The familiar, velvety voice sent shivers down my spine, even in my woozy state. “Ashely? What happened? How did I end up here?” I ask. She sighed, looking into her clipboard. "You collapsed at the wedding. You've been Unconscious since yesterday. How are you feeling?” My head raced with confusion. “What happened?” I demand answers. “We don’t know yet. We did find traces of drugs in your blood. But we are not sure if that is related. Do you know how the drugs ended up in your body?” She sked her face arched with concern. “No. Not yet. But I’ll find out who is responsible. I think I was drug at the party,” I tell her. All of bringing a dark memory. Who was trying to drug me? And why? I have to find answers. “The mark on your neck…” “Please keep that a secret,” I tell her my hand moving to my neck. “Of course, Luna. Just be careful okay,” she warned no questioning any further. “Thank you, Ashely.” “I’ll run more blood tests, and we will get back to you once we find something. I’ll call one of the servants to help you to the pack house.” “No, I need some time alone. I’ll go on my own.” She nodded, concern evident in her eyes. "Alright, but don't overexert yourself. I'll be here if you need me." With that, she left the room, closing the door gently behind her. I sat there in the cold, sterile room, my mind whirling with questions and fears. Who would drug me at my own party? And why? Not even my evil sister was at the party. So who could it be? And it seems like they had a concrete plan to get rid of me. The 5 way too many times I’ve found myself in trouble. I tried to push it back, but now I know this is more serious than I though and I cant ignore it anymore. Slowly, I swung my legs over the side of the bed, taking a moment to steady myself as dizziness washed over me. Once it passed, I began to dress in the clothes that were neatly folded on the bed side. I stepped out of the hospital into the dark night. Alone in my thoughts and feeling. Alexendra what was he doing in my wedding? What if he tries to ruin my relationship with Connor? I can’t disappoint my father. He always wanted this for me. And he was so excited about it. And I want nothing more to make him happy more than anything. And now that he's dead this is the only thing I can do in his honor. I lost my mother when I was very young. My mother was an omega in the pack, and I was an outside child. But my father never made me feel like it. He always favored me, and even more than my older sister Vera. Maybe that’s why she hates me so much. Father always seemed to pay attention no matter what I did. I was always perfect in his eyes and always made sure he showed me how much he loved me. Even though I’m different from everyone. And I mean I don’t have a wolf and weaker than a normal wolf. He never discouraged me. He never pressured me either. He always said I was just a late bloomer. That man truly only wanted the best for me. When he died he left the pack to me, and all I had to do was marry Connor. It made my sister angry of course. After all, she’s the heir. And most importantly stronger than me. Stronger than everyone in this pack. She trained hard everyday to make her father proud. She practically holds the earliest she-wolf to ever shift. 11 years old and she shifted into a beautiful white wolf. She was everything I wasn’t, and that’s why father loved me more. Or at least that is what she would say when we were younger. She’s always been jealous of me. Jealous that my father loved me more than her. That even though I didn’t shift or have much power, I would be alpha of this pack one day. But now I’m less than nothing but what my title gave me. I can not shift nor can I protect my self. And now I think someone is out to get rid of me for good. I walked into the pack house. It was quiet quite this time of the night. I headed to my room. To find Jeaneth inside cleaning around the place. “Linah. You are back. Are you okay? You scared me, “ she pulled me in a hug. “I’ll be fine Jen. Where’s Connor?” I ask almost expecting to see him around. “He left for the MoonBall,” she revealed. What the hell? “You mean to tell me he left me here to die, and replaces me with a stupid ball. “Lina, I’m sure it’s because—” “No. Don’t make excuses for him. He lied and said he was not invited to the ball,” I spat out. “I, I’m sorry. Should I go get you something to eat?” she asked, her tone apologetic. “No. I don’t want anything,” I dismissed her. “Get ready. We are going to attend a ball,” I responded coldly. she questioned me but she didn’t protest. I guess she too wanted to know what the hell is wrong with Connor. What dickass leaves his bride at the hospital and goes to a ball? An hour later, Jeaneth and I were ready to go. I had changed into a little black dress that hugged my curves in all the right places. And my hair was up in a high ponytail. I look ethereal, if I do say so myself. “You look stunning My Lady,” Jen gasped. I gave her a small smile, and then we headed downstairs to the private car waiting for us. Jeaneth held the door open for me as I stepped inside, the leather seats cool against my bare legs. The drive to the ball seemed to last forever, but finally, we pulled up to the MoonBall. The second I stepped out of the car, all eyes were on me. I could feel their gazes like daggers stabbing into my heart. Whispers followed me as I made my way inside, Jeaneth following closely behind me. I scanned the room, searching for Connor, and there he was, laughing with a group of people. His back to me didn’t even know I was here. What a f*****g prick. “Linah,” Jen said softly, tugging on my arm to get my attention. I glanced at her, and her eyes were wide with fear. “What?” I asked impatiently. When she didn’t respond right away, I lost my patience. “Jen spit it out!” I his hissed under my breath. She finally pointed to the other side of the room where Alexander stood with a group of people, but his eyes were burning at me. My eyes snapped at Connor who had my sister seated on his lap. Then at Alexender. “f**k them both,” I mummer to myself. I know that I got into this marriage because of my father. But tolerating disrespect is way off my list. But I'll deal with them later. I turn my full focus to Alexender. Alexender smirked, as if he knew what I was up to and I walked right into it. I tilted my chin high, and began to walk towards him. “What are you doing here?” I hiss as soon as I reach him. “The same thing you're here for right?” he asked, his voice laced with sarcasm. “To make an ass out of myself.” “I’m not in the mood for your games,” I sneered already beside myself with anger. I was really getting tired of everyone. “Invited as a matter of fact,” He smirked back, pulling out the invitation. “And what about you? Did you run away from the hospital? Or did the pack house not suit you anymore.” The nerve of him to insult me. “I don’t have time for your bullshit Alexander. I’m here for answers. Not to listen to your bullshit!” I snarl at him. Alexander raised an eyebrow at me, but he didn’t say anything. Instead, he took my arm and led me outside onto the balcony, away from prying eyes and gossiping ears. Once we were alone, he turned to face me. “What do you want to know?” He asked, his voice laced with false politeness. “Stay away from me and Connor,” I warned him. “You have no right prying your nose in my life and you damn well know it.” Alexander laughed, the sound cold and humorless. “And why would I do that when it was so much fun? Besides, I was invited.” “By who?” I narrowed my eyes. His eyes shifted to my husband who was still not aware of my existence. But how did they know each other? “And why?” “I think you should ask your wonderful husband,” he teases. It really took him a few hours to show his colors. Is this really the man he wanted me to marry. I was afraid something like this was afoot when I came her. I start walking towards Connor, Alexender following behind. “Linah!?” Vera my sister shouted in shock. Almost as if she had just seen a ghost. “Did I ruin your pity party sis?” I growl filled with rage. “Lina, wait! I can explain.” Connor says still in shock. I ignore him. "You could have at least waited until I was dead, dickhead! And what is SHE doing here?!" I snapped, my voice cold as ice. Connor looked taken aback by my outburst, but he quickly regained his composure. "Lina, it's not what it looks like." He said in a low voice so the others couldn’t hear us. “Bullshit! You told me you were not Invited!” I spat out angrier than I intended to be. "I... I wanted to give you time to grieve. I didn’t think you would be interested," he stuttered, but the excuse fell flat in the face of their intimate laughter earlier. "Oh, so you thought f*****g with my sister would help me grieve?” I snarked. “ "I—" he started to say, but I cut him off before he could finish. "Save it, Connor. I don't want to hear your lies anymore.” “This is exactly why I never told you. You always overreact for nothing,” He spat out in his defense. “Well that’s done it now, Connor," I growled. "If you're going to be a w***e-mongering dickweed, I won't stand in your way." I spat out. “You drawing attention to us. Why do you always want to embarrass me in front of everyone?” “Oh, I’m sorry for ruining your precious reputation," I said sarcastically. "Maybe next time, don't leave your bride for dead and go screwing around with the first thing that moves. "You're crazy! You know that?" He spat out as his grip on my wiled arm tightened even more. “Am I now?” I ask through gritted teeth. “You’re the one who can’t keep it in your pants.” With that said, I yanked my arm out of his grasp and strode off, Jeaneth following closely behind me. “Linah, wait!” Connor called after me, but I didn't look back. Tears were burning my eyes, but I refused to let him see me cry.
