I WAS SO FATIGUED I practically passed out back in the motel room. I stayed that way all day, trying to catch up on the sleep I’d lost last night. It had been hell trying to adapt my body to the stupid hours these city people keep on weekends. The pack didn’t live like this; we went to bed at night rather than dawn. Here, waking up as night fell left me groggy and disoriented. I couldn’t wait to leave this place. If everything played out as I hoped it would, I would be going home in a few hours.
