CHAPTER 14: When the Body Grows Weak

353 Words
For many years, Nathan gave his strength to the foundation and the scholars. He worked day and night, often forgetting to rest. But one morning, as he stood to speak in front of the children, his vision blurred. His knees weakened, and before he knew it, he collapsed. The children cried out, rushing to his side. Miguel held his hand tightly. “Sir Nathan! Stay with us!” Nathan woke up in the small town clinic. The doctor explained, “You are very tired, Nathan. Your body is weak because you have not been caring for yourself. If you keep this up, you will get worse.” Lying on the bed, Nathan felt frustrated. All my life, I gave everything… but maybe I forgot to care for myself. For the first time, fear crept into his heart—not fear of death, but of leaving the dream unfinished. But then, something beautiful happened. The scholars visited him every day. Ana brought warm food. Miguel took charge of the foundation’s classes. Other children cleaned the area, wrote updates, and made sure the younger ones were safe. “Sir,” Miguel said one evening, standing at Nathan’s bedside, “you don’t have to worry anymore. You taught us what Elias taught you—friendship is sacrifice. Now, it’s our turn to sacrifice for you.” Nathan’s eyes filled with tears. He had always thought he was the one carrying Elias’s dream. But now he saw the truth—the dream had already taken root in others. From his bed, Nathan whispered, “Elias, can you see this? They are stronger than I ever was. This is your legacy. This is our forever.” Though his body was weak, his spirit felt strong again. For the first time in years, Nathan allowed himself to rest—not out of defeat, but out of trust. He knew the scholars could carry the light forward. And in the quiet of the night, he felt Elias’s presence, like a soft voice saying, “Well done, Nathan. You finally understand—you were never alone.” (End of Chapter 14)
