CHAPTER 15: The Surprise

368 Words
Weeks passed, and Nathan slowly grew stronger. He could walk again, though not for long. The doctors told him to take life slowly. At first, he worried that he was no longer useful. But one evening, Miguel and Ana asked him to come to the foundation. “We have something to show you, Sir,” they said with bright smiles. Nathan followed them, walking carefully. When he entered the building, the lights were off. Suddenly—click!—the room lit up. “Welcome back, Sir Nathan!” the scholars shouted. The room was filled with decorations, hand-painted banners, and drawings made by the children. At the center was a large board with the words: “The Elias Project.” Nathan looked at it in wonder. “What is this?” Miguel stepped forward. “While you were resting, we decided to do something. We will continue your dream, Sir. We call it The Elias Project. It is about helping other poor children in nearby towns, just like you helped us. We want to carry the dream farther.” Nathan’s eyes watered. “You… you thought of this on your own?” Ana smiled. “Yes, Sir. You taught us that friendship means sacrifice. Now, it’s our turn to give. We want to make Elias’s name live on forever.” Nathan covered his face with his hands, overcome with emotion. All the sacrifices, the sleepless nights, the times he wanted to give up—they were not wasted. The dream had grown roots. “Elias,” he whispered in his heart, “your story is alive in them.” He turned to the children, his voice trembling but full of pride. “I thought I was the one leading you. But now, I see you are the ones leading me. This is more than I ever dreamed. Thank you.” The scholars gathered around him, hugging him tightly. For the first time, Nathan felt true peace. He realized the dream was no longer just his or Elias’s—it belonged to everyone. And deep inside, he knew: the weight of forever was not heavy anymore. It was light, because many hands were carrying it together. (End of Chapter 15)
