Chapter 19 The Supreme Court decision was a victory of sorts. While the undead were released on their own recognizance—no one had been able to pin any violent crimes on any of the interned, and no one knew what to do about how or why some vampires turned others—they were ordered to add their names to a watch list so the government would know where they were at all times. Concerned citizens could check the registry to see if any undead lived in their neighborhoods. Employers could check the registry before they chose to hire someone. Anyone out of curiosity could see where the vampires lived. “It’s like a s*x-offender registry,” James said, unable to hide his disgust. “But you’re free,” Sarah said. “We don’t have to run any more.” James heard the relief in Sarah’s voice, and he nodded.
