“She’s fine. She’s playing in her crib.” James sat beside Sarah on the bed and took her into his arms. He held her to his chest a long time, saying nothing, his nose in her hair, expressing their love through the silence. Sarah knew she was put on the earth to love this man, in whatever form his physical presence took. She loved his kindness, his intelligence, his stubbornness—all of him, even when he made her crazy with worry. “Everything is going to be all right,” he whispered. “This is the way it’s supposed to be.
